Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Technician (Cath Lab Tech)
The Cath Lab Technician is a specialized healthcare professional who assists physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient care in high-pressure environments.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist cardiologists during procedures.
- Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment.
- Operate and troubleshoot specialized cath lab equipment (e.g., imaging systems, monitors).
- Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural data.
- Administer contrast media and medications under physician supervision.
- Prepare pateints for procedures (e.g., cleaning, shaving, anesthetizing insertion sites).
- Provide post-procedure care and patient education.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technolgy or related field.
- Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) preferred.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- 1-3 years of experience in a catheterization lab or similar clinical setting.
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and medical instrumentation.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in high-stress, fast-paced environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for handling instruments.
- May require lifting or transferring patients.
- Use of protective gear due to exposure to radiation and bodily fluids.
