Position Overview

We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant to join our corporate finance team. This role participates in the general ledger close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting for assigned areas of the accounting ledger.

The position understands GAAP and is comfortable working independently to record, analyze, and report activity for accounting topics assigned to them. The successful individual will have a deep knowledge of the company’s ERP system, SyteLine, as well as Excel and other productivity tools to effectively perform.

This role requires daily in-office presence at our corporate location Phoenix, Arizona area.

Key Responsibilities

GL Transaction Execution & Month-End Close

  • Record journal entries to the general ledger for assigned functional areas, such as cash, prepaid obligations, payroll, debt, etc.
  • Perform month-end close duties in accordance with the close calendar, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and tie-out reporting.
  • Reconcile sub-ledger accounts to the general ledger for all assigned activities.
  • Maintain subsidiary schedules and support documentation for each assigned account.
  • Monitor and analyze account activity on an ongoing basis, investigating unusual items, trends, or movements warranting explanation.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist in preparing financial statements and supporting schedules for Controller review.
  • Provide written variance analysis and commentary for assigned accounts and reporting entities.
  • Prepare and distribute management reports on monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial analysis and reports as requested by management, auditors, or other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts at the account level.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain and monitor controls pertaining to assigned ledger accounts and business processes; identify gaps and escalate recommendations to the Controller.
  • Perform compliance activities related to banking arrangements, tax reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provide documentation and support for internal and external audits, ensuring records are complete, accurate, and organized to professional standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Systems

  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather data, resolve coding discrepancies, and ensure complete and accurate accounting.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of Vena — the company's recently acquired FP&A platform — as it relates to GL-level budgeting, forecasting, and reporting workflows.

What Success Looks Like

  • The general ledger is clean, current, and audit-ready at all times.
  • Month-end close is completed on time, with fully supported reconciliations and clear variance explanations.
  • Account reconciliations go beyond ticking and tying — they tell the story of what moved and why.
  • Leadership views this individual as proactive, raising potential issues early and bringing solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4–5 years of general ledger accounting experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP.
  • ERP experience in a mid-market, manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills — pivot tables, financial modeling, and the ability to build self-maintained reconciliation and reporting templates.
  • Strong analytical skills — both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Effective communicator — able to succinctly explain accounting activity and financial results to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across a close cycle.

A Plus

  • CPA credential or active CPA candidate.
  • Direct experience with Infor SyteLine.
  • Power BI or data visualization experience.

Competencies & Traits

  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in both accounting and forward-looking planning environments.
  • Naturally curious — asks “why” and digs into root causes.
  • Operationally minded and business-oriented.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable challenging assumptions.
  • Able to toggle between tactical execution (journal entries) and strategic analysis (margin improvement).

Why This Role Matters

The output from this role provides the financial clarity the Controller and CFO need to manage the business, satisfy auditors, and make informed financial decisions.

The individual in this role will be joining a finance team at a meaningful moment — one where strong accounting fundamentals, a process improvement mindset, and a propensity to be a change agent will be recognized.
