Academic Success Advs Coord
The College of Health Solutions is committed to supporting the success of our students during their time at ASU and beyond. We are searching for an Academic Success Advising Coordinator that has experience in academic advising, is committed to serving a diverse student body, is collaborative and a creative problem solver. This Academic Success Advising Coordinator will be working with degree programs like our Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences, Medical Studies, Biomedical Informatics, and our Bachelors of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) that are designed to help students who want to pursue professional school pathways or a prepare for a variety of health careers. The responsibilities of this position include academic advising, supporting the academic program leaders for class scheduling and curriculum, collaborating with faculty and program directors regarding degree programs they work with, presenting at and assisting with New Student Orientations, and supporting college and university retention efforts. This position will play a key role in supporting students in making timely progress toward a degree through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies. 02Essential Duties
Advising Coordinators provide one-on-one as well as group academic advising for our undergraduate students through email, virtual and in-person meetings. Coordinators deliver student service in the areas of academic advising, engagement, and retention with the ability to demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a diverse student population. They are responsible for the following activities:
- Assist students by helping them explore a variety of academic options, register for courses, and make timely progress towards completion of a degree. They work closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to degrees, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships.
- Support and provide counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to resolve problems and provide guidance and advice to students with a customer-service oriented focus.
- Act as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attend and/or present at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops,
- Manage escalated issues from both internal and external constituencies; demonstrate mastery of conflict resolution principles and techniques.
- Acts as a leader to coordinate academic success programs or advising policy development and implementation.
- Utilizes and demonstrates fluency with a wide range of relevant and appropriate software, student development theory, and retention focused strategies.
- Adeptly uses multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems).
- Actively shares and responds to feedback and insight regarding technology systems and their daily use, demonstrating leadership to staff and student employees.
- Maintains an openness to new tools utilized across the University to aid in student success and service excellence. Leads staff in implementing new tools.
- Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests after attempting resolution. May seek to resolve complex issues and takes the lead on projects built around student support.
- Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests and clearly develops and conveys the nuances of outcomes verbally and in writing.
- Navigates complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans, establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
- Works as a university agent in ensuring ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and successful progress to completion, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services, and utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
- Possesses a clear understanding of the unit goals of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations. Drives unit initiatives with holistic understanding of the unit goals.
- Collaborates with leadership to provide solutions associated with specific programs or projects.
- As required, supervises/supports Academic Success Advisors in the successful execution of their duties. This may include hiring, training, mentoring and/or managing performance for direct and/or indirect reports.
- Coordinates a program(s), portion of a large program, a group of activities and functions, or a project within a department or college directed to the retention and success of the student population. This may include conducting or completing assessment, evaluation, timelines, goals, and budget of the program.
- Ability to manage projects by engaging peers and/or students to complete project goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years or more of the following: advising or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in Academic Success Advising Coordinator retention, graduation, and academic planning; Or, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience working with undergraduate students and providing student success services; knowledge of student development theory.
- Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilizing new technology, practices, policies and methods.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate at high levels with other academic and student affairs units at ASU.
- Experience working with curriculum development and faculty.
- Experience designing presentation materials.
- Experience giving oral presentations in group settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure and organization; academic programs, colleges and departments university-wide.
- Experience using ASU technology to facilitate advising including DARS, PeopleSoft, Retention Dashboard, Salesforce, eAdvisor and critical tracking tools.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
