Essential Job Functions for an Operator II
Highlighting their progress in equipment operation and plant familiarization:
This is a hands-on position that requires adaptability and a strong team-player mindset. Candidates must be willing to assist the team with a variety of tasks beyond operating heavy equipment. If you are unwilling to pick up a shovel, help unclog the crusher, assist with screen changes, or take on other non-operator roles as needed, this position is not for you. A willingness to get out of the cab and support the crew is essential to our success.
Equipment Operation (Proficient and Expanding Skills)
- Proficiently operates at least one type of heavy equipment used in a landscape rock quarry, such as loaders, haul trucks, or crushers (if applicable), following established procedures and safety protocols.
- May be assigned to operate different types of equipment as their skills and experience progress.
- Demonstrates safe and efficient operation of equipment, contributing to overall production output.
- Observes and learns from experienced operators to improve their skills and master the operation of additional equipment.
Plant Maintenance and Support (Basic Tasks and Support)
- Assists with basic plant maintenance tasks under the guidance of experienced mechanics or supervisors. This could include tasks like lubricating equipment, cleaning components, or performing basic inspections.
- Contributes to the overall cleanliness and organization of the plant area to promote safety and efficiency.
- Reports any equipment malfunctions or potential maintenance issues to the supervisor or mechanic.
Production Support and Improvement
- Works independently on routine equipment operation tasks, following established procedures and production schedules.
- Identifies minor areas for improvement in their own work efficiency and communicates them to the supervisor for potential adjustments.
- Collaborates with other operators to ensure smooth workflow and efficient equipment utilization.
Safety Procedures and Training
- Continues to strictly adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while operating equipment and working around the plant.
- May participate in additional safety training programs to stay up-to-date on quarry safety regulations and best practices.
- Serves as a positive safety role model for new Operator I trainees.
Communication and Learning
- Maintains clear communication with the supervisor regarding task progress, any equipment issues, and production updates.
- Asks questions and actively seeks opportunities to learn from experienced operators and supervisors about more complex equipment operation and maintenance tasks.
Additional Responsibilities
- May perform general labor tasks around the quarry as instructed.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude, demonstrating a strong work ethic and willingness to take on new challenges.

An Operator II plays a vital role in the quarry operation by efficiently operating assigned equipment and contributing to basic plant maintenance tasks. Their focus should be on continuously developing their equipment operation skills and expanding their knowledge of plant operations. As they gain experience and proficiency, they can progress towards even greater responsibilities, potentially operating a wider range of equipment or taking on more advanced maintenance tasks.

- Proficient in operating multiple types of heavy mining equipment (loaders, haul trucks, excavators, dozers, etc.) and eager to expand skills.
- Able to assist with basic plant/mine maintenance tasks.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to MSHA and company protocols.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive work ethic and a desire for continuous learning.
