Job Summary
The HPC Systems Engineer / Solutions Integration Engineer is responsible for supporting internal users, technical teams, and global business units in the deployment, optimization, and adoption of cloud and high-performance computing solutions. This role ensures customers (internal or external) are onboarded into cloud environments successfully, while providing expert technical guidance throughout the solution design and deployment cycle. The position requires strong HPC experience, advanced Linux systems knowledge, and the ability to manage complex cloud, compute, and storage infrastructures.
Job Description
- Support end-to-end deployment of cloud-based solutions in a large enterprise environment.
- Develop solution design capabilities and best practices to ensure successful cloud adoption.
- Perform continuous technology research to improve cloud architectures and deployment workflows.
- Manage image customization and infrastructure configuration aligned with cloud adoption processes.
- Conduct technical presentations, workshops, and assessments across the sales and deployment cycle.
- Facilitate smooth onboarding of users into cloud environments.
- Translate technical issues into clear, non-technical summaries for leadership-level reporting.
- Diagnose and resolve advanced issues involving web applications, backend services, IaaS deployments, and multi-cloud environments (Azure, Google Cloud, etc.).
- Evaluate HPC infrastructures and recommend performance and manageability improvements.
- Investigate and troubleshoot system-level issues across compute, networking, and storage layers.
- Partner with internal support teams across systems, networking, programming, operations, and facilities.
S kills Required
- Minimum 5 years of experience in large-scale HPC environments with thousands of servers, enterprise storage, and tape automation systems.
- Strong proficiency with Linux installation, configuration, and administration (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux).
- Hands-on experience with IBM xCAT for distributed computing management.
- Skilled in hardware installation and maintenance (servers, tape drives, robotic libraries, GPUs, SSD/disk arrays).
- Experience with containerization technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking and datacenter technologies, including switching, routing, HA, LAN/WAN/WLAN, Ethernet, InfiniBand, and Fiber Channel SAN.
- Experience with HPC storage systems: HPE ClusterStor, NetApp, Dell Isilon, Pure Storage.
- Ability to write and troubleshoot scripts in Bourne/Bash/C Shell, Perl, Python, Ruby, and MRTG.
- Experience with PostgreSQL installation and support.
- Multi-cloud experience, including Google Cloud Platform and Azure instance provisioning, image building, and scripting.
- Familiarity with Ansible, Terraform, and configuration-as-code practices.
- Experience with backup/recovery tools such as IBM Spectrum and Dell NetWorker.
- Strong understanding of Linux security and endpoint protection.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex HPC system issues.
- Adhere to formal change management processes, including pre-deployment testing.
- Clearly communicate change activities, potential outages, and impacts to all stakeholders.
- Maintain enterprise IT deployment standards and document best practices.
- Meet support ticket processing requirements including documentation and knowledge base creation.
- Work closely with internal teams and external vendors on system issues and support needs.
- Provide weekly written status reports and participate in team review meetings.
- Participate in on-call rotations and support after-hours maintenance as needed.
- Engage in "follow-the-sun" support with global support centers.
- Contribute to peer reviews for major deployments and ensure compliance with QA and safety processes.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
- Or related field OR 5–10 years of equivalent industry experience.
Pay Rate
- $45 per hour and higher depending on experience
Additional Details
- Experience with specialized geoscience or engineering software such as Omega2, Petrel, OPM, RDM, OSM, OCM, WHSM, MMS, ECL, IX, Visage, PetroMod. (Not required but highly advantageous.)
- Relevant technical certifications (Cisco, RedHat, Microsoft, or similar) preferred.
