Regional Organizing Director

Advancing Arizona
Tucson, AZ

Advancing AZ is looking for a strategic organizer to lead the outreach and events program in the Tucson area that will advocate for economic policies that work for everyday people and mobilize grasstops, leaders, and constituents on key issues.

The Regional Organizing Director understands organizing strategy and tactics to garner news media attention, takes a creative approach to recruiting constituents and key messengers, and can communicate effectively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

As Regional Organizing Director, you will:

  • Identify and recruit storytellers and local leaders in the community willing to speak out and share their personal stories on issues related to the economy.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Advancing AZ team to design and execute a successful community outreach program that uses the most innovative and effective offline and online organizing tactics.
  • Maintain a drumbeat of advocacy and accountability actions in your district — from press conferences to rallies, roundtables, and town halls, to garner press coverage — including overseeing all logistical needs, crowdbuilding for events, and recruiting local speakers.
  • Inform the community about federal economic policies that impact their families and communities.
  • Work with the Communications Director and Digital Manager to amplify personal stories and spread the word about your organizing activities online and in the media.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with elected officials, local advocacy organizations, key stakeholders, and other non-profit organizations on the district level.
  • Track and monitor twenty-four hour news cycles in the event there is an opportunity for rapid response action.
  • Support press and digital efforts for your district as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About you:

  • You are proactive and have exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • You are an effective communicator capable of coordinating between various stakeholders and making policy and politics relatable and accessible to working people.
  • You are passionate about progressive politics and are committed to working towards more inclusive and equitable public policy.
  • You have prior field / organizing experience working on a political or issue-based campaign.
  • You have experience working with communities of color and the working class.
  • You are calm under pressure and nimble in a changing campaign environment.
  • You have experience building and recruiting for in-person events that garner earned media attention.
  • You have an inclusive, community-first, and deeply human approach to organizing.
  • You are willing and able to travel.

In addition, it would be a bonus if you:

  • Have a familiarity with our issue areas.
  • Are someone who consumes local and national news and is interested in communicating on progressive issues critical to working families.
  • Are familiar with how to communicate about our issue areas.
  • Are familiar with issues important to state and district residents.
  • Have a connection to the state and its communities, such as having lived or worked there.
  • Are fluent in both English and Spanish.

Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000 / year

A stipend for health insurance to assist with covering costs of health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as paid leave for holidays, vacations, and sick days is available to employees of the organization.
