Content Platforms & Operations is responsible for the development and ongoing advancement of the technical and operational functions driving the worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney’s linear networks and theatrical content. This includes Disney’s media supply chain and storage, network and theatrical distribution operations, media localization, network transmission and origination, and more. The global team also plays a critical role as the primary collaboration point for Product & Technology with Disney’s EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regional business teams.
We are the Content Platforms team with a mission to “reimagine the technical ecosystem that empowers The Walt Disney Company to harness its unparalleled storytelling and distribute it around the world.” Content Platforms is part of the Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology segment which is responsible for the global scheduling, delivery and monetization of Disney VOD and live content across multiple platforms including Disney+, ESPN/ESPN Flagship, ESPN+, ABC, Freeform, FX Networks, National Geographic, the Disney Channels and Hulu.

Job Summary:
As a Software Engineer II, you will design, build, and maintain end-to-end solutions that power our enterprise application portfolio. You’ll work across front-end and back-end technologies, applying modern DevOps practices and cloud-native architectures to deliver secure, scalable, and performant systems. This role is highly collaborative, requiring strong technical depth and the ability to partner with product and engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Full Stack Development: Build and maintain web applications using Java/Spring Boot on the backend and React, Node.js, and modern JavaScript frameworks on the frontend.
API & Integration: Design and implement RESTful services and integrate with internal and external systems.
DevOps & Deployment: Apply CI/CD pipelines and work with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms to ensure reliable deployments and operational excellence.
Domain Expertise: Contribute to systems managing complex accounting workflows for payments to content creators and rights holders—critical to Disney’s media ecosystem.
Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, architects, and other engineers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Agile Delivery: Embrace lean principles and agile methodologies to deliver value quickly, iterating based on feedback and avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
Provide technical guidance and evangelize best practices.
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our core systems and how they interact with upstream and downstream dependencies.
Contribute and review code, set standards, and work with engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met
Responsible for fundamental platform performance, scalability, and resiliency
Partner with stakeholders to refine requirements, and propose solutions to problems that span multiple teams
Contribute to cross-functional troubleshooting of complex issues as needed
Basic Qualifications
BS Computer Science or related technical discipline or its equivalent
3+ years in full stack development, building highly scalable, secure, and user-centric applications.
Strong understanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, etc)
Backend: Java, Spring Boot.
Frontend: React, Node.js, HTML/CSS, modern JavaScript.
APIs: RESTful Web Services.
DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
Demonstrated proficiency designing APIs and building RESTful services
Complete understanding of the full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation, etc.
Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker
Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies. Can effectively articulate complex ideas and influence others through well-reasoned explanations
Enjoy working within a team setting of engineers of varying experience
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience in media distribution
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Familiarity with Kotlin, Database Systems, SQL
Comfort and experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Co-pilot, Amazon Q Developer or Claude Code
Experience working with vendor teams to deliver high quality results
Experience collaborating with teams located across the globe
Knowledge of performance testing and application profiling
Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it
