Position Description:

The teacher is responsible for the direct care and supervision of the children in his or her classroom, and for planning a well-rounded, age-appropriate educational program consistent with our Christian foundation and in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Prince of Peace Preschool. The teacher also is responsible for the indirect care and supervision of all the children on the preschool campus.

Responsible to : Director

General Duties: Responsible for planning and executing a developmentally appropriate education program in line with Prince of Peace Preschool’s Christian educational goals and beliefs.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have one of the following:
  2. BS or BA in Early Childhood Education
  3. BS or BA in Elementary Education
  4. CDA Credential
  5. AA Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development
  6. Minimum of 3 years (5 years Preferred) experience as a preschool teacher, responsible for writing lesson plans and implementing the classroom program and a minimum 12 credit hours in Early childhood education and/or child development from an accredited college.
  7. Must have or apply (prior to beginning teaching) a Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  8. Must be First Aid and CPR trained.
  9. Must enjoy working with children and be able to relate to them and their parents
  10. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  11. Must have an education philosophy that complements the philosophy of Prince of Peace Preschool.
  12. Must be reliable and conscientious in carrying out assigned duties.
  13. Must demonstrate a patient and loving attitude towards children.
  14. Must be comfortable teaching the Christian faith to students.
  15. Must submit all required paperwork before beginning work.
  16. Must be physically able to complete the functions of the position, including, but not limited to, lifting and carrying children.

  1. Planning and implementing a well-rounded, age-appropriate curriculum.
  2. Promoting and supervising activities that enhance the spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each child.
  3. Being alert to the needs, welfare, health, and safety of all the children.
  4. Gearing the program to the needs and individual style and pace of learning.
  5. Considering each child in relationship to the child’s cultural and socio-economic background.
  6. Providing and maintaining a neat, clean organized classroom.
  7. Taking responsibility for upkeep of equipment and materials.
  8. Preparing all class materials prior to class.
  9. Maintaining discipline in the classroom and on the playground in a calm and positive manner.
  10. Using positive disciple techniques and modeling desired behavior.
  11. Working with all staff members in a cooperative manner
  12. Always acknowledging children and parents (or care givers) upon arrival and departure. A cheerful “good morning” or “have a nice day” goes a long way.
  13. Arriving at school with enough time to clock in, put belongings away and be where you need to be at your scheduled time.
  14. Maintaining a neat and clean appearance.
  15. Adhering to policies regarding pick-up of children by authorized persons.
  16. Reporting any unsafe equipment and/or conditions to the director immediately.
  17. Making sure your classroom is neat and orderly at the end of the day.
  18. Making sure that current lesson plans, daily schedule, and snack calendar are posted in the classroom and visible for parents to see.
  19. Notifying Director of supplies needed.

20. Attending and participating in all staff meetings.

21. Conducting parent-teacher conferences two times a year.

22. Attending workshops, seminars and in-service training to total of 18 clock hours/year, as pre-approved by the Director.

23. Providing Immediate and proper medical attention for any child who is injured.

24. Maintaining the classroom Bulletin boards on a monthly basis.

25. Preparing and sending home a classroom newsletter at least once a month.

26. Responsibilities and/or classroom assignment may change in the afternoon and may include giving teacher lunch breaks, enrichment classroom or nap rooms.

27. Weekly communication update with parents via email or the Procare app.

28. Communicate with parents via messages on the Procare app on an as needed basis.

29. Making the water table, sensory table, and painting easel available to the children to use on a weekly or daily basis.
