Job Summary

T he GMS Systems Analyst provides technical support, system administration, and maintenance for the Energy Management System (EMS) and its ancillary systems and applications supporting ERCOT grid operations. This role is responsible for maximizing EMS uptime, mitigating system failures, and analyzing user requirements to enhance and automate system functionality.

Job Description

• Provide primary support, system administration, and maintenance for EMS upgrade systems through multiple testing cycles
• Integrate and maintain various EMS applications, including monitoring and routine system maintenance
• Perform structured and unstructured testing; log and track defects in the defect tracking tool
• Collaborate with business leads, project managers, and technical leads to provide timely updates and feedback
• Partner with EMS vendors and GMS development teams to reproduce defects and validate fixes
• Coordinate with GMS Applications Engineering teams to install defect fixes and releases across testing environments
• Monitor EMS systems and applications to ensure performance, stability, and availability
• Coordinate and perform database updates and upgrades in EMS environments
• Support Operations Engineers, Market Operations, and other business units during EMS acceptance testing
• Prepare and review technical documentation to support effective EMS administration
• Perform code builds, patch implementation, and system migrations
• Conduct system setup and testing with Market Participants as appropriate
• Provide 24/7 support for system failures and operator inquiries
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain EMS systems, applications, and interfaces
• Maintain real-time data collection supporting EMS functions
• Proactively identify system design issues and drive resolution
• Participate in EMS disaster recovery drills
• Test, certify, and implement changes in EMS production and test environments
• Perform emergency recovery and system troubleshooting activities
• Participate in planning and impact analysis of system modifications and maintenance activities

Job Skills Required

• 5+ years of experience in system administration on Linux and/or Windows operating systems
• Experience working with relational database management systems (RDBMS), including Oracle and/or SQL databases
• Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and ICCP (Inter Control-Center Communication Protocol)
• Preferred: System administration experience with GE EMS Suite
• Preferred: Experience with other EMS vendor platforms such as Hitachi/ABB, Siemens, OSI, or GE PowerOn Reliance
• Preferred: Experience supporting real-time operational systems in a utility or energy market environment

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

Pay Rate

• $73 - $81.50 per hour (Compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors)
