Job Description
This role provides skilled phlebotomy and specimen processing services in a physician office setting, with a strong focus on supporting cancer patients and other individuals who may present with difficult draws. The phlebotomist collects and receives biological specimens, accurately enters information into the laboratory information system, prepares samples for analytical testing, and ensures specimens reach the appropriate analytical areas. The position covers both pre- and post-analytical phases of testing and may include performing specified analytical tests while adhering to established codes of conduct and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Draw blood from patients, including cancer patients and those with difficult veins, using excellent phlebotomy techniques and a compassionate approach.
- Collect and receive biological specimens in the department and verify patient identity and test orders prior to collection.
- Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the company’s computer system and maintain complete and precise documentation.
- Prepare samples for analytical testing, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and packaging specimens according to established protocols.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical areas to ensure timely processing and testing.
- Manage both pre-analytical and post-analytical aspects of testing, including specimen handling, storage, and documentation of results-related activities as assigned.
- Perform specified analytical tests as assigned, following all laboratory procedures and safety guidelines.
- Follow all applicable codes of conduct, regulatory requirements, and internal policies related to patient safety, confidentiality, and laboratory practices.
- Collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff in the physician office to coordinate patient flow and ensure a positive patient experience.
- Provide patient-centered care by explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and maintaining a calm, professional demeanor during blood draws.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
- Support a team-oriented environment by communicating effectively, assisting colleagues as needed, and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
Essential Skills
- At least 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience with cancer patients and difficult blood draws.
- Proficiency in blood collection techniques, including venipuncture and specimen collection from a variety of patient populations.
- Hands-on experience with specimen processing, including handling, labeling, and preparing samples for laboratory testing.
- Ability to accurately enter and manage patient and specimen data in a computer or laboratory information system.
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate patient care, especially for individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a clinical office environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Commitment to following laboratory protocols, safety standards, and codes of conduct.

- Previous experience collaborating closely with medical assistants and clinical staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support patients who may be anxious or in distress.

Work Environment
The phlebotomist works on-site at a cancer center located within a physician office, typically operating Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m in Scottsdale AZ 85253. MUST live 15 miles or less from location. The role involves drawing blood from the physician’s patients and working closely with medical assistants in a collaborative, patient-focused environment. The setting includes standard clinical and laboratory equipment such as phlebotomy supplies, specimen processing tools, and computer systems used for data entry and tracking. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scottsdale, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
