Job Summary


This position begins in August, 2026.

The Anthropology Department and the Social Behavioral Sciences Division at Chandler-Gilbert Community College is a thriving, innovative, and collaborative community of instructors and scholars dedicated to fostering the personal and professional success of both our students and colleagues. We are seeking a full-time residential faculty member to teach undergraduate anthropology courses, with an emphasis in biological anthropology.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to instructional excellence and student success, along with the ability to effectively support a various student body. The successful candidate will utilize a range of instructional methods, assessment practices, and educational technologies to engage students and enhance learning.

As a faculty member in our department, you will be expected to contribute to the program’s success through active participation in departmental, divisional, and college-wide activities.

To effectively support students, the department, and the college community, this position requires a regular on-campus presence. Opportunities for partial remote work may be available depending on departmental needs.

Essential Functions


Instructs a various population of students across multiple modalities, including classroom, hybrid, online, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats. Delivers instruction in anthropology courses and develops syllabi, instructional materials, curriculum, and learning activities aligned with MCCCD course competencies and college-wide learning outcomes. Uses active learning strategies and instructional technologies to engage students and promote learning, retention, and achievement. Demonstrates a commitment to rigorous curriculum, service excellence, and innovation. Prepares, assesses, and evaluates student mastery of course competencies and college-wide learning outcomes, using assessment results to review, revise, and develop curriculum that improves instruction and student learning. Maintains scheduled office hours to support and advise students.

Engages in the academic life and mission of the college by participating in district-wide and campus initiatives and committees, division and department meetings, and college events. Demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and the community, and maintains a collegial, team-oriented approach to collaboration. Represents the CGCC Anthropology program in division, college, and district activities, including meetings, committees, workshops, and projects. Serves as department co-lead faculty, including supervising, hiring, evaluating, and mentoring adjunct faculty, reviewing syllabi, and coordinating course staffing.

Remains current with emerging trends and developments in the field and advances the scholarship of teaching and learning through participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops. Continually develops and strengthens pedagogical knowledge related to the Anthropology discipline, as well as effective teaching practices for adult learners and underprepared students.

Minimum Qualifications


A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:

Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field of Anthropology

OR

Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field of Anthropology

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (master’s or doctorate) in Biological Anthropology from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching biological anthropology courses and labs such as Bones, Stones and Human Evolution (ASM104) and/or Forensic Anthropology (ASM275) in a college setting within the last three (3) years. Include course prefixes and titles, number of semesters taught, and specify teaching modes (i.e., in-person, hybrid, online, etc.).
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students through individualized instruction, such as supervising ASM298AA Special Projects or similar independent study or research courses.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and teaching across multiple modalities, including the use of instructional strategies that promote accessibility and support a various student population.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as lead faculty, including supervising, hiring, evaluating, mentoring adjunct faculty, reviewing syllabi, and course staffing. Additionally, experience in maintaining, managing, and curating discipline-related artifacts and specimens.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active and meaningful engagement within the college community through service on committees, initiatives, task forces, mentoring, and collaborative projects within the department, division, college, and district levels.
  • Regular engagement in professional development (e.g., research, publishing, presenting, attending conferences, coursework, and training) and active involvement in anthropology-related activities, including participation in or leadership of fieldwork.
  • Demonstrated commitment to college service that aligns with CGCC’s Vision, Mission, and Values and supports the continued growth and advancement of the institution.
  • One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years.

**** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.
