Cable Technician
Cable Technician (Data Center) – Contract-to-Hire
On-site (Phoenix Metro Area)
TEKsystems
Pay: $20–$24/hr + OT (1.5x)
Schedule: 10–12 hour shifts (50–60 hours/week typical)
Overview
TEKsystems is seeking motivated Cable Technicians to support a large-scale data center installation project . This is a long-term, contract-to-hire opportunity on a multi-year project, offering steady work, hands-on training, and strong career growth in the structured cabling industry.
What You’ll Do
- Install and route CAT5/CAT6 low-voltage cabling in a data center environment
- Pull and route cable through J-hooks, cable trays, walls, and ceilings
- Perform cable dressing, labeling, and organization prior to termination
- Assist with building telecom closets (racks, patch panels, backboards)
- Terminate and install low-voltage devices and network infrastructure
- Support rack & stack activities and equipment installation
- Follow safety procedures while working on ladders, lifts, and elevated surfaces
- Complete project documentation (timesheets, work orders, etc.)
- Maintain compliance with company and site safety standards
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in structured cabling, construction, or low-voltage work
- (Entry-level candidates or trade school grads encouraged to apply)
- Experience using hand tools and working in construction environments
- Basic understanding of low-voltage systems (CCTV, access control, wireless, etc.)
- Ability to work long shifts on your feet in an industrial setting
- Must be reliable, coachable, and team-oriented
Nice to Have
- Experience with CAT5/CAT6, network cabling, or fiber
- Familiarity with cable pulling, splicing, troubleshooting
- Experience using scissor lifts or working at heights
- Data center or commercial install experience
Work Environment
- Large-scale indoor data center construction setting
- Limited climate control (can be hot)
- Extensive walking and physical activity
- Early morning shifts may be required (as early as 4 AM during summer)
Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (75 lbs occasionally)
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to read basic prints (or willingness to learn)
- Steel-toe boots required
- Must bring a basic tool kit (list provided during onboarding)
Compliance
- Criminal check (7-year)
- 10-panel drug screening (with potential random testing)

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
