Senior Project Manager - Civil Construction
The Senior Project Manager plays a key leadership role in delivering large and complex civil construction projects. This position provides overall contract administration, technical expertise, and operational oversight to ensure successful project execution from initiation through closeout.
Key Responsibilities
Lead full contract administration and provide technical direction for large or complex construction projects.
Champion and implement the project safety plan, fostering a strong safety culture through visible leadership and accountability.
Oversee all phases of construction to ensure alignment with design intent, budget, quality standards, resource planning, and project schedule.
Understand client objectives and proactively present value engineering solutions to optimize functionality, cost efficiency, and timelines.
Maintain accountability for overall project performance, regularly reviewing safety metrics, cost forecasts, and schedule updates.
Negotiate and issue subcontracts, major purchase orders, and progress payments while monitoring performance and timelines.
Interpret, communicate, and proactively manage contract terms and documentation.
Develop and coordinate project commissioning and closeout processes to ensure seamless project completion.
Identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities throughout the construction lifecycle.
Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop project teams, including both direct and indirect reports.
Design-Build Projects (if applicable)
Monitor design progress to ensure compliance, quality, coordination, constructability, and adherence to deliverable timelines.
Implement and maintain a comprehensive design management and quality plan, conducting periodic audits to ensure standards are met.
Maintain clear and proactive communication with stakeholders, managing expectations and addressing challenges or opportunities as they arise.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
10+ years of progressive experience in construction, including demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
Proven ability to cultivate and sustain a strong safety culture in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Extensive knowledge of construction practices, materials, specifications, building codes, construction law, and quality management systems.
Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills with demonstrated experience managing budgets, schedules, risks, and resources.
Ability to forecast project staffing and resource requirements effectively.
Experience identifying and managing project risks and opportunities.
Demonstrated success building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
Proven experience leading project teams and managing trade performance across multiple construction phases.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management/scheduling software, with a strong ability to adopt new technologies.
