Medical Assistant - Ophthalmic Technician –

We’re hiring a motivated Medical Assistant - Ophthalmic Technician to join our team! This is a unique opportunity to be part of our mobile eye care program that brings eye exams and glasses directly to schools across the Valley (4–5 days per week). In addition to working with patients, you’ll also gain valuable experience in administrative and technical roles such as verifying insurance, edging glasses in-office, and delivering finished eyewear back to schools.
When not traveling with the mobile program, you’ll also support our office, where you’ll play a key role in preparing patients for their exams and running essential diagnostic testing.
About the Role
This is a fast-paced, hands-on position that blends patient care with technical and administrative skills. You’ll interact with patients of all ages, provide pre-exam testing, operate advanced diagnostic equipment, and help ensure every student and patient receives high-quality vision care.
Primary Responsibilities
Mobile Program
- Assist with patient work-ups at schools throughout the Valley
- Help manage student flow and ensure smooth clinic operations
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage
- Edge glasses in-office and deliver them back to schools
Patient Work-Up & Pre-Testing
- Perform visual acuity, visual fields, pupils, IOP, color vision, and stereopsis testing
- Gather detailed ocular and medical history
- Operate autorefraction and lensometry
Patient Support & Documentation
- Explain testing procedures clearly to patients and students
- Provide a welcoming, professional experience
- Accurately document results in the EHR system
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the optometrist and team members
- Support smooth clinic flow both in-office and on the road
Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience in eye care preferred (training provided for the right candidate)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Flexible and comfortable working in both office and mobile school settings
