Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
The Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for completing general embedded software development assignments while contributing to design teams on electrical projects related to vehicle chassis, components, and systems. The role involves developing embedded software control design concepts and documentation to support product manufacturing, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, product quality, and cost objectives. The engineer will interface with various internal groups and suppliers to exchange technical information and provide technical support to manufacturing, marketing, sales, service, and parts departments.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and update software requirements, create embedded software, and write test requirements and documentation.
+ Support software releasing and implementation.
+ Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, drafting technical documents and making presentations during design reviews.
+ Develop Quality Confirmation Check Sheets for design concepts.
+ Discuss, negotiate, and resolve specification issues with manufacturing and suppliers.
+ Meet quality, cost, and delivery targets established for the project.
+ Utilize continuous improvement techniques to improve quality, reduce cost, and lead time.
+ Maintain effective engineering change control by preparing and processing engineering release letters.
+ Support prototype development by resolving problems and documenting countermeasures.
+ Support service and QA departments by determining root cause of problems and developing effective countermeasures.
+ Present design concepts and progress at design review meetings.
+ Support sales and marketing by ensuring product meets customer expectations and by developing special features as needed.
+ Travel to machine worksites to participate in surveys, investigate problems, and evaluate countermeasures.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of experience in related product design or Master's Degree with 3+ years of experience.
+ 3+ years of experience in software and hardware electronics related to vehicle data monitoring and control.
+ Experience in software architecture development in C on embedded platforms, including commercial RTOS.
+ Knowledge of communication protocols such as J1939 and TCP/IP.
+ Understanding of microcontrollers and embedded development.
+ Experience with multi-thread real-time systems and embedded driver development.
+ Ability to create software design documentation.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
+ Ability and willingness to travel, including international travel up to 5% of working time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Preferred experience in model-based software development using Matlab/Simulink.
+ Experience developing CAN/J1939 datalink communication software.
+ Linux and RTOS experience, preferably with exposure to QNX.
+ Experience in embedded C programming.
+ More microcontroller/application experience than driver experience, though driver experience is a plus.
Work Environment
The position is located onsite and requires presence five days a week. The work environment involves interaction with various technologies, including embedded systems and real-time operating systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peoria, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.
