Overview
Under the supervision of the Corporate Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist will develop, train, and enforce the policies and procedures designed to maintain and improve employee safety at the Flagstaff facility. This position will require a close working relationship with Operations, Production, Traffic, HR, Quality, and Maintenance departments as well as an ability to handle complex issues such as accident investigation, policy documentation, employee training, and corrective action support. This employee will work to support site and companywide safety initiatives as a part of a collaborative and aligned Safety department.
Responsibilities
- Ensure company compliance with regulatory safety requirements (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.)
- Participate in the creation and implementation of workplace health and safety plans and procedures
- Evaluate health and safety practices/procedures for risk assessment and legal alignment
- Coordinate, conduct, and document required employee safety training
- Assist in development of safety training
- Inspect equipment and environment for unsafe workplace conditions
- Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies
- Conduct accident and near miss investigations to determine root cause
- Determine and apply preventative measures for further incidents
- Coordinate with HR on worker's compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident
- Research, present, and implement safety improvements
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Safety Management degree/certifications (GSP, CSP, GSM) strongly desired
- Knowledge of health and safety guidelines
- 3+ years’ experience working in a safety field preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products
