Robotics Systems Reliability Technician
What a day looks like
You arrive on the floor before the robots start their busiest window. Your first stop: a walk-through of Symbotic’s automated adapters, vertical lifts, and the fleet of automated robotic vehicles. You run inspections on the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS), verify calibrations, and stage a plan to keep throughput on target.
As the day unfolds, you adjust, calibrate, repair, replace, or modify components to keep the system humming. You monitor adapters handling manual inbound, automatic inbound, and automatic outbound flows to hit maximum cases-per-hour. When anomalies surface, you pull up schematics and wiring diagrams, break out advanced test gear, and troubleshoot until stoppages are cleared. Every action is logged thoroughly in the CMMS with parts, labor, and notes for future reference.
Between tasks, you communicate production impacts, estimated repair times, and recommended actions to the right teammates. You recover automated robotic vehicles in the Symbotic Matrix select system—even in restrictive spaces—then return to minor utility work such as machining holes, fabricating simple brackets, cutting steel, aligning sensors, or attaching Unistrut. You keep robotic arms dialed-in with setup, calibration, and tool changes. And throughout the shift, you uphold 5S and jump in for Cell Operator duties as needed.
Your core responsibilities
- Inspect AS/RS equipment, automated adapters, lifts, and robotic vehicles on schedule.
- Adjust, calibrate, repair, replace, or modify system components to sustain continuous operations.
- Process and monitor adapter-driven flows (manual inbound, automatic inbound, automatic outbound) to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
- Troubleshoot vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematics, wiring diagrams, and advanced test equipment.
- Perform periodic inspections within target durations; document parts, labor, and actions in the CMMS.
- Communicate production-impacting issues, suggested corrective actions, and time-to-repair to appropriate team members.
- Clean up work areas and remove replaced components after repairs.
- Recover automated robotic vehicles in the Symbotic Matrix select system, including work in restrictive environments.
- Complete minor utility tasks (e.g., machining holes, building brackets, cutting steel, aligning sensors, attaching Unistrut).
- Set up, calibrate, and perform tool changes on robotic arms.
- Maintain continuous cleaning and adhere to 5S practices; perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
- Execute other duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications that set you up for success

Work environment and physical requirements
- Climb steep stairs into the structure; work near railings high off the ground.
- Work in environments protected from weather but not temperature; operate between 32°F and 105°F.
- On construction sites, wear required PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eye/ear protection, fall protection such as a safety harness).
- Frequently lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 80 lbs safely.
- Stand and walk for 10–12 hours; regularly reach with hands and arms.
- Routinely work at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive areas as small as 24 inches; climb/balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Capable of feeling, seeing, hearing, bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, balancing, gripping, climbing, crawling, sitting, handling objects, and repetitive movement using both hands and feet.
