Project Engineer – Heavy Civil

Location: Arizona (Greater Phoenix or Tucson Area)

Company Overview

A well-established Heavy Civil Contractor is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join its growing Heavy Civil Division . The ideal candidate will support project teams to ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective execution of infrastructure projects, maintaining alignment with safety, schedule, and budget goals.

Position Summary

The Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting Project Managers and Superintendents throughout all phases of construction. This position involves managing documentation, maintaining accurate schedules, assisting with estimating and change orders, and ensuring effective coordination between field operations and project administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update project schedules in coordination with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager.

  • Develop detailed Primavera (P6) project schedules and corresponding cash flow reports .

  • Attend and document pre-construction , planning , and weekly coordination meetings , distributing meeting minutes and updates to project teams.

  • Assist with job cost tracking , investigating and correcting discrepancies.

  • Prepare and process change orders, back charges, and force account documentation .

  • Participate in project closeout activities , including quantity take-offs, as-built drawings, and cost history input.

  • Support progress billing and monthly project estimates .

  • Attend agency meetings and maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders.

  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor field progress and support operations.

  • Collaborate with estimating and field teams to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of related experience in heavy civil roadway, earthwork, grading, paving, or wastewater construction .

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word , and Primavera (SureTrak or P6) scheduling software.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and adjust to changing priorities.

  • Knowledge of construction methods, equipment, and government regulations .

  • Works accurately and meticulously under deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering , Construction Management , or related field preferred.

  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
