Team Overview

As the Sr. Writer & Editor, you will report to the Managing Editor in our Creative Services team at ADF. You will be responsible for producing compelling content that inspires action from our audience through web content, direct mail, email, etc. and contribute to additional content used across a variety of channels to further the mission of ADF. You will collaborate closely with the Creative Services team and other cross-functional departments to ensure content is produced accurately and in a timely fashion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and edit content for direct mail and digital monthly fundraising campaigns, including appeal letters, newsletters, proposals, emails, donor messaging and landing pages, and more.
  • Simplify complex legal and cultural issues into clear, concise, and engaging content that helps our audience understand the issue, how it affects them, and what they can do to take action.
  • Edit the work of others to ensure strong, consistent messaging while taking initiative to coach other writers on the team.
  • Work with other Team Members to ensure content speaks with one voice, is consistent with legal objectives and messaging, adheres to brand guidelines, and inspires our audience to take action through multiple channels.
  • Evaluate all ADF cases, programs, and strategic projects for their potential for acquisition or fundraising campaigns.
  • Occasionally work cross-team to craft content for Faith & Justice magazine, opinion editorials, web articles, and other channels as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a writer.
  • Creative and persuasive writing skills and knowledge of action-oriented language for a variety of marketing channels.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues and jargon into clear and engaging messages while meeting the desired voice, tone, and brand guidelines.
  • Project management and organization skills with proven ability to balance multiple projects and adhere to deadlines, working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fundraising writing principles and techniques.
  • Experience in direct mail.
