Verde Canyon Railroad, Arizona's "Most Scenic Train Ride," is seeking an experienced and dynamic Inventory Manager to join our dedicated team in Clarkdale, AZ. This is a rare opportunity to manage the vital flow of materials that keep our historic trains running, our gift shop stocked, and our passengers delighted!
In this leadership role, you will:
- Strategize & Optimize: Develop and implement inventory control strategies to ensure we always have the right parts, products, and provisions.
- Lead & Mentor: Guide and inspire a small team, fostering a culture of accuracy and efficiency.
- Procure & Partner: Manage relationships with our valued suppliers, finding the best deals and ensuring timely deliveries.
- Innovate & Improve: Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance our inventory management systems.
- Ensure Smooth Operations: Oversee the entire inventory lifecycle, from receiving critical supplies to stocking Cafe, Train, and Staff.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Strategic Inventory Planning & Management:
- Develop and implement comprehensive inventory strategies aligned with operational needs and business goals.
- Forecast demand for various inventory categories (e.g., mechanical parts, retail goods, F&B) based on historical data, upcoming events, and seasonal trends.
- Establish and maintain optimal stock levels, reorder points, and safety stock to prevent stockouts and reduce excess inventory.
- Oversee regular cycle counts and monthly physical inventories, investigating and resolving discrepancies proactively.
- Procurement & Vendor Relations:
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process, from requisition to purchase order generation and delivery.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Evaluate supplier performance and identify opportunities for new vendor partnerships to enhance quality or cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and resolution of vendor disputes.
- Receiving, Storage & Distribution:
- Direct the efficient receiving, inspection, and accurate documentation of all incoming shipments.
- Develop and enforce best practices for the organization, labeling, and safe storage of inventory across all designated areas.
- Oversee the timely and accurate distribution of materials to various departments (e.g., maintenance shop, gift shop, commissary).
- Implement and monitor inventory rotation (e.g., FIFO) for perishable or date-sensitive items.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise and mentor inventory/stocking staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth opportunities for team members.
- Develop and manage work schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all inventory operations.
- System Optimization & Reporting:
- Manage and optimize the inventory management system (IMS), ensuring data integrity and system functionality.
- Generate and analyze detailed reports on inventory levels, turnover rates, cost analysis, and procurement performance.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology and streamline inventory processes for greater efficiency.
- Budgeting & Cost Control:
- Develop and manage the inventory budget, monitoring expenditures and identifying cost-saving initiatives.
- Minimize waste, obsolescence, and shrinkage through effective inventory control measures.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all inventory operations adhere to company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards, particularly those relevant to railway operations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in all storage areas.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods in various warehouse and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to work in High Heat or cold temperatures.
