Position Summary: Under the supervision of the WIC Director, the Clerk performs administrative support within WIC clinics. This position serves as the first point of contact for WIC participants and community members, providing courteous, professional, and customer-focused service. This position is responsible for ensuring program compliance, maintaining high-quality client services, and representing the clinic in community events. The clerk ensures that clinic activities align with federal, state, and local guidelines while supporting a collaborative and efficient clinic environment.

  • Performs front desk reception activities, including answering phones, responding to questions, scheduling appointments, accepting and distributing mail, and providing information to the public and other agencies.
  • Checks in clients when they arrive for WIC services.
  • Schedules and re-schedules participant appointments according to processing standard requirements.
  • Informs public and agency workers on a variety of health promotion and disease prevention programs available.
  • Adheres to the confidentiality standards of applicable Privacy Acts.
  • Determines eligibility, and explains eligibility criteria, participant responsibility and WIC policies.
  • Accurately documents information on residency, income, and family situation in a computerized participant database.
  • Issues food benefits to eligible WIC participants.
  • Maintains security and inventory of food benefit supplies.
  • Participates in community outreach activities.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, and conferences as required.
  • Explains program procedures, regulations, processes, and time frames to applicants and representatives.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook)
  • Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Etc.)
  • HANDS software

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Fingerprint Clearance Card

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
