The University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL) within the College of Science invites you to apply to the position of Research Professional I. In this role, your purpose will be to explore and discover the photometric properties of satellites and to understand their rotational properties and orientation. This work will be performed under general supervision of Dr. Vishnu Reddy.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:
- Set up and operate the Stingray optical sensing system for satellite observations, including aligning optics, configuring detectors, and preparing data‑collection software.
- Conduct scheduled telescopic observations of artificial satellites, adjusting system parameters during sessions and documenting all changes and conditions.
- Prioritize and manage daily research tasks including equipment prep, calibration, data acquisition, and initial processing under general faculty supervision.
- Develop and refine observation procedures by optimizing photometric settings, sensor configurations, and experimental techniques for satellite tracking.
- Perform photometric characterization by extracting light curves and analyzing brightness variations to determine satellite rotation and orientation.
- Assist in developing protocols for satellite attitude identification by testing observational techniques and evaluating their accuracy.
- Analyze photometric datasets, perform quality checks, generate light‑curve outputs, and interpret results to support research goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of wide‑field photometric systems and their operation in night‑sky observing environments.
- Skill in Python programming for data processing, analysis, and automation related to photometric measurements.
- Ability to handle, process, and analyze photometric data from artificial satellite observations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/move up to 35 lbs.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience is required.
