EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Friends of the Pima County Public Library

Friends of the Pima County Public Library, a nonprofit organization in Tucson, Arizona, is looking for its next leader.

We are seeking an executive director with proven experience in revenue generation, particularly from sales and retail, who can successfully lead both a small paid staff and more than 200 dedicated volunteers. With over $800,000 in annual revenue, Friends raises money primarily through online and in-person book sales. Our mission is to support the Pima County Public Library, and we want to continue to grow our organization’s revenue and membership.

The executive director works under the direction of the Friends Board of Directors and is responsible for daily operations. We are looking for a hands-on leader who is also an effective administrator with strategic vision.

The position is full-time, salaried, and requires some weekend work.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Serve as the public face of the nonprofit, with effective outreach to the community.
• Lead creative marketing initiatives with an eye toward future growth.
• Develop and manage budgets.
• Hire and manage staff.
• Implement strategic plans.
• Ensure effective communication with the Board, staff, volunteers, members, and the public through personal contact, newsletters, and the media.
• Oversee positive and efficient interaction among volunteers.
• Manage warehouse operations and all book sales.
• Ensure that physical facilities are well-maintained and safe.
• Hire and manage vendors and suppliers.
• Maintain a productive relationship with the Pima County Public Library Director.

Qualifications:

• Experience working or volunteering in a leadership position within a nonprofit organization.
• At least three years of experience in a supervisory role.
• Demonstrated success working with a board of directors.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Skilled in business accounting and financial practices.
• Proficiency in business computer software, with the ability to learn software for online sales and database management.
• Ability to work effectively with volunteers and staff, exercising professionalism and good judgment.
• Ability to perform the core functions of the role, including tasks involving inventory and communication, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Salary range: $75,000 to $85,000 per year with benefits.
