Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Not specified Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience reading basic telemetry strips, experience with surgical, neurological, and general patients Description: This position requires working on a telemetry unit. The unit consists of two sections with a total of 48 beds. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:5. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory issues, gastrointestinal concerns, diabetes, transient ischemic attack, cerebrovascular accidents, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and spinal surgery. Experience with reading telemetry strips is essential, as RNs are required to interpret and sign off on strips at least once per shift. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and telemetry technicians are located on another floor. RNs are expected to have some familiarity with Cerner, as there is limited orientation available. Charge nurses do not take patient assignments. There are nurse aides available on the unit, with a typical aide ratio of 1:10-15. Equipment available on the unit includes Bipap, Cpap, high flow, and some breathing treatments. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, running from 7 PM to 7:30 AM, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Self-scheduling is utilized but is subject to manager approval for balance. Weekend work is required for two weekends per four-week schedule. For holidays, there is a requirement to work two days and one evening or two evenings and a day during major holidays. Floating to other units may be required if qualified. Dress code is navy blue scrubs.
