Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine and scheduled security rounds of the hospital campus, including Civil Hospital, Forensic Hospital, and the Arizona Community Protection & Treatment Center.
• Monitor and control ingress and egress points to ensure authorized access and campus safety.
• Respond to and actively participate in emergency situations, hospital codes, drills, and safety incidents as required.
• Perform building, mall, and campus safety inspections and report hazards or concerns.
• Rotate through assigned security posts or serve as an interior campus rover as scheduled.
• Assist clinical and support staff during patient interventions, providing visible support and maintaining safety.
• De-escalate patient conflicts when appropriate using approved non-violent techniques.
• Promote and reinforce proper Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) methods among unit staff.
• Communicate timely, accurate information and feedback to the on-duty Hospital Security Supervisor and other stakeholders as needed.
• Operate and monitor security equipment, including cameras, radios, telephones, and related systems.
• Participate in vehicle and radio maintenance, safety inspections, and completion of required documentation.
• Prepare clear, accurate incident reports and maintain required records in accordance with policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Ability to receive, interpret, transmit, and execute written and verbal directives.
• Strong verbal de-escalation skills and effective communication techniques.
• Knowledge of evacuation procedures, including the proper use and operation of fire extinguishers.
• Incident investigation and professional report-writing skills.
• Proficiency in monitoring electronic surveillance systems and using radio communication equipment.
• Ability to respond to hospital-related codes and provide verbal and/or physical intervention during critical patient interactions.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain professional interpersonal relationships with patients, residents, staff, visitors, and law enforcement personnel.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting and carrying as required.

Working Conditions

• Rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Work performed in a hospital and campus environment with potential exposure to high-stress or emergency situations.
