A well-established Heavy Civil Contractor in Arizona is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join its Water/Wastewater Division in the Phoenix Metro area. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive project support to ensure work progresses efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
Position Summary
The Project Engineer will assist with planning, coordination, and management of all project-related activities from pre-construction through closeout. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting large-scale water/wastewater treatment and heavy civil infrastructure projects in self-performing environments.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with scope of work , bid package preparation , and subcontractor/supplier solicitation .
Support pre-construction and ongoing project coordination meetings.
Maintain and distribute project schedules weekly to all relevant team members.
Manage and track all permits, submittals, and drawings ; process change orders and back charges .
Record labor, equipment, and material costs daily/weekly; verify and code delivery tickets for payment.
Generate and distribute production and cash flow reports .
Assist with project closeout activities , including final quantities, change orders, and release documents.
Coordinate effectively with field teams, clients, and management to ensure project milestones are achieved.
Qualifications & Skills
Strong understanding of construction processes , coordination of personnel and resources, and production methods.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents .
Excellent organizational and communication skills with strong follow-through .
Capable of producing accurate, high-quality results under deadlines .
Adaptable to changing priorities and able to handle pressure in fast-paced environments.
Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
Water/Wastewater plant or ADOT/CMAR project experience strongly preferred.
Proficient in Excel, Word, Primavera (SureTrak) ; familiarity with Prolog/Expedition, CAD , or similar software is a plus.
Knowledge of CSI codes, specifications, and industry standards .
Must possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record .
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management required.
Master’s Degree preferred.
3+ years of relevant project experience in heavy civil or water/wastewater construction preferred.
