Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic

We are looking for a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair of construction and paving equipment. This role is responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing repairs, and helping coordinate shop activities to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. The position works with a fleet that may include asphalt paving machines, rollers, loaders, skid steers, trucks, and other heavy construction equipment. This is an opportunity for an experienced mechanic who can combine hands-on technical work with leadership and equipment management responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues on heavy construction equipment

• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on paving and construction machinery

• Lead day-to-day shop activities and help coordinate work assignments for mechanics and technicians

• Troubleshoot equipment issues in both shop and field environments

• Maintain equipment records including service history, repairs, and parts usage

• Coordinate with operations and field crews to ensure equipment availability for active projects

• Order and manage parts, tools, and shop inventory as needed

• Ensure equipment repairs meet safety standards and operational requirements

• Assist with equipment inspections, troubleshooting breakdowns, and emergency repairs

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience repairing heavy construction equipment or paving equipment

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical components

• Experience working with equipment such as pavers, rollers, excavators, loaders, skid steers, and dump trucks

• Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic problems

• Prior leadership or shop supervision experience preferred

• Ability to read service manuals, equipment schematics, and diagnostic information

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

• Valid driver’s license required; CDL may be preferred depending on equipment needs
