About the Position
The Estimator – Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater will play a critical role in the company’s success by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for water, wastewater, and heavy civil infrastructure projects . This position requires a comprehensive understanding of treatment processes, underground utilities, grading, concrete, and mechanical systems .
Working collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors , the Estimator will support all phases of preconstruction — from quantity takeoffs and bid preparation to constructability reviews and value engineering. Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and addenda for heavy civil and W&WW treatment projects.
- Prepare detailed takeoffs for earthwork, piping, concrete, and process mechanical systems.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates, including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Conduct site visits to assess project scope and field conditions.
- Participate in constructability reviews and value engineering sessions.
- Maintain and update cost databases, production rates, and estimating templates.
- Support multiple delivery methods, including design-build, CMAR, and hard-bid projects.
- Coordinate closely with project managers and engineers to align estimates with construction methods.
- Assist in project handoffs, cost tracking, and post-bid analysis to improve future estimating accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of estimating experience , with at least 3 years in heavy civil, water/wastewater, or public works projects.
- Experience working with municipal, state, or federal contract requirements .
- Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid or equivalent estimating software.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) .
- Position is located in Reno, NV.
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing .
- Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment processes, utilities, and concrete structures .
- Ability to interpret civil, mechanical, and structural drawings.
- Effective written and verbal communication for coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
