POSITION OVERVIEW
The Dean of Students supports campus administration and instruction by managing student discipline, fostering positive parent and community relationships, and supervising and coordinating assigned student activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Responsibilities
- Assist in supervising the school’s educational program
- Act on behalf of the Principal in their absence
- Maintain regular, effective communication with the Principal
- Supervise, mentor, and train staff; implement the campus discipline program
- Support and help facilitate staff meetings
- Help keep families and the community informed about school activities and student progress
- Assist in planning and supervising school events and activities
- Administer and facilitate Parent Committee meetings as assigned
Behavior Intervention & Student Support Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain a consistent, restorative, and trauma-informed school-wide behavior system.
- Investigate incidents, communicate with stakeholders, and apply appropriate interventions or disciplinary actions.
- Support staff with classroom management and student engagement strategies.
- Provide direct support to students with behavioral, emotional, or academic challenges.
- Assist in developing and monitoring behavior intervention and support plans.
- Maintain CPI certification and respond to student crises as needed.
- Support classrooms by addressing disruptive or off-task behavior.
- Develop incentive programs, behavior reports, and student support presentations.
- Maintain required documentation and records.
- Facilitate communication between students, staff, and families.
- Administer discipline in accordance with school policies and state law.
Attendance
- Supports in monitoring daily student attendance and proactively intervening in cases of chronic absenteeism or truancy.
- Identify and track students who are at-risk due to frequent absences.
- Maintain timely, consistent communication with parents/guardians via calls, emails, letters, and text messages regarding attendance concerns.
- Collaborate with students and families to develop and implement individualized attendance improvement plans.
- Work closely with administrators, counselors, teachers, and support staff to address attendance issues and support student success.
- Implement and support the C.U.T.S. program with fidelity.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all attendance-related contacts, interventions, and outcomes.
School Safety and Emergency Operations
- Support and collaborate with administration to implement and maintain the school’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), including drills, procedures, and training.
- Serve as a member of the school safety or crisis response team on campus.
- Support daily campus supervision, including arrival/dismissal, hallways, lunch areas, and school events.
- Respond to safety incidents, assess threats, and coordinate communication and action plans with leadership and emergency personnel.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness among staff and students.
- Support and collaborate with SSO/SRO.
Assessment Logistics Coordination
- Plan and coordinate logistics for school-wide assessments, including schedules, student movement, and bell schedule adjustments
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and staff to develop and implement testing plans
- Communicate assessment schedules, procedures, and expectations to staff, students, and families
- Coordinate distribution of testing materials and technology resources
- Troubleshoot and resolve logistical issues during testing
- Ensure compliance with state, district, and testing security protocols
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources, including standardized assessments, classroom assessments, and student work samples, to assess student achievement and program effectiveness.
- Gather feedback to improve future assessment processes
Management and Supervision
- Supervise and support the Behavior Interventionist, providing guidance, performance feedback, and direction to ensure effective student support and program implementation
Duty Coverage Management
- Create and manage staff duty coverage tracker throughout the school year
- Ensure adequate supervision during arrival/dismissal, hallways, and lunch areas
- Adjust staff duty coverage schedule as needed throughout the school year
Other Duties
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Administration to support the overall mission of the school.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Three (3) years of experience in education
- Experience working with youth and families to develop programs that support student academic development and school and community involvement.
- Valid State of Arizona “IVP” Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Bilingual (preferred)
- An in-depth knowledge of school discipline policies and code of conduct
- Subject matter expertise within the educational community on student discipline and behavior management strategies
- Demonstrated program development and implementation skills
- The planning of the work of others and the coordination of work with other departments or external agencies
- The ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations
- The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, community members, faculty, staff, media, supervisors, managers, and directors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations
- The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop staff
- A flexible schedule to work hours necessary to fulfill job requirements
- The ability to build consensus that permeates the entire staff through the development and implementation of a professional learning community
BACKGROUND CHECKS
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
- Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times
PHYSICAL/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.
- This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Twelve-month employee pay and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
