**Now Hiring: Payroll & Tax Lead**
**Schedule:** 100% Onsite | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
**Location:** Scottsdale, AZ
**Pay Range:** **$43.50-$52.70 per hour**
We're looking for a **Payroll & Tax Lead** with deep multi-state payroll experience, advanced payroll tax knowledge, and rock-solid attention to detail. This role is hands-on, high-impact, and ideal for someone who enjoys both detailed payroll work and leading tax-related activities such as reconciliations, audits, and notice resolutions.
**What You'll Do**
**Payroll Operations**
+ Review, audit, and process multi-state payroll weekly
+ Manage payroll close: imports, runs, NACHA files, garnishments, and tax submissions
+ Process stop payments, reversals, manual checks, and special payments
+ Validate, load, and audit payroll files and employee imports
+ Act as the primary back-up to the Payroll Manager
+ Support payroll for openings, closings, and special events
**Tax Administration & Compliance**
+ Lead review and reconciliation of payroll tax files and returns
+ Research and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices
+ Oversee quarterly and annual tax filing audits
+ Stay current on multi-jurisdictional tax laws and advise on system/process impacts
+ Validate new tax setups and support tax configuration updates
**Garnishments & Compliance**
+ Process and oversee complex garnishment activity
+ Support new location tax setup and compliance requirements
**Reporting, Reconciliation & Audits**
+ Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll/tax reconciliations
+ Reconcile cash paid out at restaurant locations
+ Support internal and external audit inquiries
**Team Support & Leadership**
+ Serve as a subject-matter expert and mentor to the Payroll team
+ Maintain SOPs, workflows, and documentation
+ Assist with system testing, process improvements, and cross-functional projects
**Customer Service & Communication**
+ Provide exceptional service to employees, HR, Accounting, and Operations
+ Resolve complex payroll and tax inquiries professionally and accurately
+ Communicate payroll compliance and labor reporting requirements clearly
**What You Bring**
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business preferred (experience accepted)
+ **5+ years** progressive multi-state payroll and payroll tax experience
+ Expert knowledge of federal, state & local tax regulations
+ Strong analytical skills and comfort with complex reconciliations
+ Proven ability to lead initiatives and train team members
+ Expertise with payroll systems; **Workday strongly preferred**
+ Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and payroll reporting tools
