This position is assigned to the Alternative Community Engagement Services (ACES) Center at the Juvenile Court Center, which is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, including holidays.

The position has work schedules which could include swing shifts (12:00 PM - 10:00 PM) or overnight shifts (10:00 PM - 8:00 AM). Schedule includes 4 - 10-hour shifts.

Upon yearly anniversary, 56 hours of sick time accrued, less usage, may be rolled over to vacation time.

This position is classified and reports to the Probation Officer III (formerly Probation Unit Supervisor).

The incumbent performs duties under general supervision, typically one-on-one or in small groups with assigned youth, and has no staff supervisory responsibilities.

This position works in the Juvenile Probation division of the Juvenile Court, but it is not a sworn position.

Minimum Qualifications:


A minimum of 21 years of age, must be a United States citizen or have legal resident status, and a high school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. certificate.

Preference may be given for the following:

  • Prior work experience utilizing communication skills with youth ages 13 - 19.

  • Prior customer service work experience.

  • Prior work experience with adolescent youth.

  • A minimum of one (1) year of verifiable work experience.

  • Fluent in Spanish (in addition to English).

Essential Duties & Functions:

  • Supervise referred youth during respite period and provide safe/secure environment.
  • Develop respectful, engaging, and trusting rapport with referred youth and families which helps to facilitate behavioral interventions.
  • Work with families to identify community resources to address identified risk factors.
  • Provide supervised respite in the ACES center for youth.
  • Engage youth in positive, supervised activities during their stay at the center.
  • Utilize de-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques to effectively communicate with youth and families.
  • Explain process and next steps to the youth and families.

  • Must have knowledge of childhood development and age-appropriate activities.
  • Must have knowledge of human behavior and various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must have the knowledge of the principles and practices of teamwork.
  • Must have knowledge of court policy and procedures.

  • Must have the ability to deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment with limited direct supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Licenses and Certificates:

A valid Arizona Driver's License is required at the time of appointment. CPR and First aid certification with six months of appointment.

Important Notice Regarding Multiple Applications:

Once a candidate formally accepts a job offer with Superior Court, Juvenile Court, or Justice Court (Tucson and Ajo), all other active applications within these courts will be inactivated.

Physical/Sensory Items:

Typically performs duties in a secure institution and may lift a youth, materials, or equipment of 50 lbs or less. Incumbents are required to stand and walk for at least half of their scheduled work shift and physically required to bend, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl and stoop.

Education Reimbursement Program:

The program will provide up to $5,250 per calendar year towards the cost of tuition, required books, registration fees, and laboratory fees. The Employee's lifetime maximum benefit would be for reimbursement of one Bachelor's degree and one Master's degree.
