Safety Engineer
Position Overview

You will serve as a trusted technical resource, trainer, and advocate—working closely with field leadership to ensure every job site operates safely, compliantly, and efficiently. What You’ll Do
Safety Leadership & Field Engagement
- Act as the on-site Safety Representative for assigned construction projects, providing hands-on safety leadership and daily field presence.
- Execute all safety functions across project lifecycles, from mobilization through close-out.
- Partner with project teams to embed safety into planning, execution, and daily decision-making.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Implement and maintain site-specific safety plans aligned with GCON’s safety program and OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), pre-task planning reviews, and project-specific risk assessments.
- Perform regular site safety inspections, identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and follow through to resolution.
- Ensure all required safety records, documentation, and reports are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
Training & Coaching
- Lead job site safety orientations for all new employees and visitors.
- Deliver and coordinate safety training including (but not limited to):
- Fall protection
- Scaffold user training
- Forklift and mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) training
- Serve as a go-to resource for employees on environmental, health, and safety best practices.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current on evolving safety laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Support incident investigations and assist with identifying trends and preventive measures.
- Collaborate with the Safety Manager to identify opportunities to strengthen GCON’s safety culture and systems.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), or a related field
- 1–2 years of experience in safety engineering or a related safety role, preferably in construction
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Comfort using and learning new technologies and safety platforms
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage field teams and leadership
- OSHA 10/30 certification
- Location: Project-Based / On-Site
- Travel: Required (project dependent)
Preferred Qualifications
- Safety certifications such as:
- Dust Control 310
- First Aid / CPR
- HAZWOPER (24-hour)
- NFPA 70E
- CHST
- OSHA 510/500
- Working knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 or applicable state construction safety regulations
- 2+ years of experience supporting high-tech or mission-critical construction projects (data centers, semiconductor, chip manufacturing)
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This role is primarily field-based and requires the ability to safely navigate active construction sites:
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and balancing
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use
- Visual acuity (near, mid, far), depth perception, and color vision
- Ability to hear alarms, radio communication, and conversational speech
- Ability to travel and sit for extended periods during project assignments
