Position Summary
The CMM Quality Inspector (Programmer and Inspector) is responsible for leading all coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming, inspection, and metrology functions to ensure product conformance within aerospace and medical device manufacturing standards. This hands-on leadership role involves developing and optimizing CMM programs, performing precision inspections, managing inspection resources, and maintaining compliance with AS9100 and ISO 13485 quality requirements. The CMM Quality Inspector will collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to drive dimensional accuracy, product integrity, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
CMM Programming & Inspection
- Develop, validate, and optimize CMM programs for complex aerospace and medical device components using software such as CMM Manager / PC-DMIS .
- Perform detailed first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102 standards and generate inspection reports.
- Inspect precision machined parts, tools, and assemblies to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Conduct both automated and manual dimensional inspections using CMMs, height gauges, surface plates, and other metrology tools.
- Troubleshoot measurement discrepancies and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues.
Leadership & Management
- Supervise and develop CMM operators and quality inspectors, ensuring adequate training and competency in metrology techniques.
- Manage daily priorities within the CMM lab to support production schedules and customer delivery timelines.
- Oversee calibration and maintenance of all CMM and precision measurement equipment.
- Drive standardization of measurement methods and documentation practices across shifts.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure inspection processes comply with AS9100 , ISO 13485 , and customer-specific requirements .
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits by providing metrology data and records.
- Maintain traceability, inspection records, and digital documentation in accordance with quality management system (QMS) standards.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineers to develop and refine control plans, inspection plans, and process capability studies (CP, CPK).
Continuous Improvement
- Lead metrology-related process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Support engineering and manufacturing in problem-solving, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action activities (CAPA).
- Evaluate and implement new metrology technologies and software upgrades to enhance inspection capability.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–8 years of experience in dimensional inspection and CMM programming .
- Strong background in aerospace and/or medical device precision manufacturing environments.
- Deep understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and interpretation of complex engineering drawings and 3D models.
- Experience with FAI documentation (AS9102) and working knowledge of ISO 13485 and AS9100 standards.
- Proficiency in PC-DMIS , CMM Manager or equivalent CMM programming software.
- Experience with Renishaw, Zeiss, Hexagon, Nikon or similar CMM systems.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/QMS systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) or Dimensional Metrology.
- Experience with laser scanning, optical measurement systems, or non-contact inspection technologies.
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Prior experience supporting NADCAP or FDA audits.
