Senior Accountant
Description
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented finance professional to lead our accounting operations and financial reporting. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financials while helping drive financial strategy and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely transaction recording.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including bill entry, check runs, and collections.
- Process payroll and maintain payroll records.
- Track job costs and project expenses across all active jobs.
- Reconcile monthly credit card and bank statements, with proper documentation for charges.
- Record and reconcile intercompany transactions and journal entries.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly/quarterly closings.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare quarterly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Compile performance reports for ownership review.
- Conduct quarterly account reconciliations and variance analyses.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process with leadership input.
- Maintain and update cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor budget-to-actuals for both company and project financials.
Cost & Job Management
- Track labor, subcontractor, and material costs per job.
- Review and analyze job profitability.
- Partner with project managers and estimators on cost tracking and reporting.
Compliance & Tax
- Prepare and file annual 1099s for subcontractors and vendors.
- Ensure sales tax compliance across applicable jurisdictions.
- Coordinate with external tax preparers and auditors.
Cash Management & Banking
- Monitor daily cash position and manage inter-account transfers.
- Maintain banking relationships and support financial institution reporting as needed.
Process Improvement & Internal Controls
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes.
- Reconcile bank statements monthly.
- Recommend and implement process and system improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with job costing and project-based accounting a plus.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
