JOB SUMMARY
As a Roaster, your role will encompass the full spectrum of production and packaging. In this position, you will actively participate in coffee cupping and quality control measures but will also provide guidance to team members in the application of optimal roasting techniques in accordance with company processes. Precise management of both green bean inventory and roasted coffee is essential to ensure an adequate supply for all locations. As a Roaster, you will play a pivotal role in upholding the highest standards of coffee craftsmanship while fostering a collaborative environment that champions the art of roasting.

$19.23 - $24.04 per hour

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Roaster, you will not only excel in the art of coffee roasting but also exemplify leadership through your commitment to quality. With a lead-by-example approach, you will participate in training others in the roasting process, ensuring quality, efficiency, and consistency. Your duty to uphold a standard of excellence extends beyond the roasting process; you will instill a culture of excellence by fostering a clean and organized workspace, adhering to established procedures, and participating in various tasks to maintain a smooth operation. In addition to your dedication to roasting, your willingness to share knowledge and shape the growth of fellow team members will contribute to the success of the department and attainment of company initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilizes data from roasted coffee stock and Shopify orders to calculate weekly roasting requirements.
- Performs coffee roasting to fulfill both store and online order demands.
- Records green coffee bean inventory and updates prices in the Cropster system.
- Adjusts roasting formulas in Cropster as necessary.
- Conducts comprehensive quality control tasks, including obtaining, shipping, and evaluating samples, participating in cupping sessions, and facilitating Roast Rite samples.
- Operates, maintains, and ensures cleanliness of roasting and packaging equipment based on the preventative maintenance schedule.
- Maintains a well-organized, tidy, and accessible workspace.
- Refills Jacky’s (Coffee Bean dispensers) utilizing the Flexicon system.
- Adheres to the "first in, first out" principle when roasting green coffee beans.
- Prepares totes and boxes for packing roasted beans.
- Safely operates a forklift truck when required.
- Receives incoming shipments and maintains inventory stock.
- Offers coverage during breaks and lunches for team members regardless of their job roles.
- Steps in for colleagues during their absences due to PTO, sick leave, or other reasons.
- Communicates activities effectively and maintains accurate documentation.
- Completes all relevant forms and reports.
- Assists in conducting weekly, monthly, and quarterly cycle counts.
- Supports facilities cleaning, including tasks like bathroom upkeep and trash disposal.
- Undertakes cross-training in various departments as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in coffee roasting techniques, understanding different roast profiles, and ensuring quality and consistency in roasting batches.
- Competence in operating, maintaining, and cleaning coffee roasting and packaging equipment, following preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve common goals.
- Willingness and skill to provide training and guidance on roasting techniques and related tasks.
- Proven ability to foster and maintaining a positive, collaborative, and constructive working environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey information, document activities, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
- Attention to detail in executing roasting processes, quality control, and equipment maintenance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to proficiently operate standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, etc.
- Effectively communicates and exchanges accurate information through oral and written means.
- Ability to drive and park vehicles, with the capability to frequently enter and exit a vehicle.
- Displays physical strength, endurance, and mobility to manage a medium to heavy workload, navigate machinery, ascend, and descend ladders, and operate various tools and equipment.
- Possesses clear vision for reading printed materials and computer screens.
- Exhibits excellent hearing and speech abilities for in-person, telephone, and radio communication.
- Navigates warehouse and operational areas frequently, demonstrating mobility and agility.
- Utilizes finger dexterity for data entry on computer keyboards and calculators.
- Confidently operates tools and equipment with ease.
- Capability to operate a forklift truck safely and efficiently, if required.
- Performs bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, and reaching movements comfortably.
- Lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls objects up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Ability to maneuver objects weighing up to 150 pounds comfortably using a hand truck.
