Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Responsible for managing and developing the systems used to monitor, control, and regulate operations and processes at the Pinto Valley Concentrator and Tailings Plants. The process control specialist also has a leading role supporting field equipment troubleshooting of electrical issues as well as identifying strategies to preserve the function of servers and network hardware. This position works closely with the electrical, metallurgical, operations, IT and assets and engineering teams to design and develop effective solutions to optimize control loops, maintenance strategies and provide expertise, knowledge and guidance for all areas related to control engineering.

• Process Control Management: Lead development and optimization of advanced control strategies, PLC logic, and equipment interlocks to enhance plant stability and throughput. Audit control loop performance, implement alarm rationalization programs, and support remote troubleshooting alongside E&I teams. Coordinate DCS/PLC upgrades, patches, and system outages with IT.
• Technician Development: Provide technical coaching to process control and E&I technicians. Develop and maintain a structured training and competency matrix focused on DCS architecture, advanced process control (APC), historian analysis, and real-time data systems.
• HMI Systems Coordination: Oversee design, standardization, and continuous improvement of operator and engineering HMI/SCADA displays. Integrate condition monitoring and process KPIs using Pi System tools (Pi Server, Pi Vision) to enhance operational awareness and decision-making.
• Instrumentation & Control Maintenance: Define and manage preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for instrumentation, control valves, and automation assets. Align spare parts management with criticality and reliability requirements.
• Control Infrastructure Oversight: Supervise control network architecture, hardware performance, and cybersecurity compliance. Coordinate with IT on troubleshooting, system backups, patch management, and protocol diagnostics (e.g., Modbus, OPC, Profibus).
• Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

• 3 years in process control in a mining processing plant
• Certificate or diploma in related field

Preferred

• 5+ years in process control in a mining processing plant
• Electrical, electronics, chemical, metallurgical, materials or process engineering degree or diploma
