Position Summary

The Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) Erector is responsible for safely assembling, erecting, and installing structural steel systems, metal building components, roofing systems, wall panels, insulation, doors, windows, and related building systems for Southwest Building Solutions projects. This position plays a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality construction while supporting efficient project execution and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Working under the direction of a Foreman, the PEMB Erector performs skilled construction work while collaborating with fellow crew members to complete projects in accordance with construction drawings, manufacturer specifications, company quality standards, and project schedules.

Success in this role requires mechanical aptitude, construction knowledge, a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to perform physically demanding work in a variety of outdoor conditions.

Essential Functions

Building Erection & Installation

  • Assemble and erect pre-engineered metal building systems in accordance with approved construction drawings and manufacturer specifications.
  • Install primary and secondary structural steel components.
  • Install roof systems, wall panels, trim, insulation, doors, windows, vents, and related building components.
  • Perform layout, alignment, and fastening of structural members.
  • Verify proper fit and alignment throughout installation.

Structural Assembly

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, erection plans, and installation details.
  • Assist with structural steel alignment, bolting, and final assembly.
  • Safely guide structural components during crane operations.
  • Assemble rigging and hoisting equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Assist with field modifications when approved by project leadership.

Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate aerial lifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, forklifts, telehandlers, and other approved construction equipment.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections before operation.
  • Report equipment deficiencies immediately.
  • Properly secure and maintain company tools and equipment.

Quality Workmanship

  • Complete work in accordance with company quality standards and project specifications.
  • Verify installed components meet layout, alignment, and installation requirements.
  • Identify workmanship concerns and communicate issues to the Foreman.
  • Participate in punch list completion and final quality inspections.
  • Maintain pride in craftsmanship throughout every phase of construction.

Safety

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and fall protection requirements.
  • Properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and immediately report hazards.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever unsafe conditions exist.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas throughout each project.

Material & Equipment Handling

  • Load, unload, stage, and organize construction materials.
  • Safely move materials using approved equipment and rigging methods.
  • Protect materials from damage during storage and installation.
  • Maintain accountability for company tools and equipment.

Team Collaboration

  • Work effectively as a member of a field construction crew.
  • Communicate professionally with Foremen, Assistant Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Support fellow crew members to achieve project goals.
  • Promote a positive and respectful work environment.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in company training and skills development opportunities.
  • Learn new construction techniques and installation methods.
  • Cross-train in additional field responsibilities to improve crew flexibility.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout Field Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of six months of construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to read basic construction drawings and follow installation instructions.
  • Comfortable working at heights while utilizing required fall protection.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight as the project requires.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience erecting pre-engineered metal buildings.
  • Experience installing standing seam roof systems.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Aerial Lift Certification.
  • Forklift or Telehandler Certification.
  • Welding experience.
  • Rigging and signaling experience.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting of heavier materials as part of a team.
  • Regularly climbs ladders, works from elevated platforms, and performs work at heights while using fall protection equipment.
  • Frequently stands, walks, bends, kneels, crouches, crawls, reaches, and works on uneven terrain.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
  • Works outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • May work overtime, weekends, and overnight travel as project schedules require.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily on active construction jobsites throughout Arizona. The PEMB Erector works closely with Foremen, Assistant Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, and fellow field personnel to safely construct high-quality pre-engineered metal building systems while maintaining exceptional workmanship, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
