Key Responsibilities for Success

• Precision Excavation: Digging to exact line and grade specifications for mainline water, sewer & storm drain systems.
• Utility & Trench Safety : Safely excavating around existing utilities with precision to prevent strikes.
• Equipment Stewardship : Performing daily inspections of fluid levels, brakes, and mechanical components to ensure machine readiness.
• Safe Material Handling : Overseeing rigging and the secure lowering of pipes and manhole barrels into excavations.
• Installation & Backfilling : Managing the full installation cycle, from reaching proper depth to meeting final grade compaction standards.

What You Bring to the Table

• 2+ years of operating experience specifically in underground utility installation.
• Awareness of soil conditions and proper slope requirements per OSHA standards.
• Knowledge and understanding of Blue Stake markings.
• A proactive attitude—you don't wait to be told, you look ahead, solve problems, and own your section of the job
• Familiarity with documentation and reporting tools: daily logs, cost tracking, quantity reports, etc.
• Strong collaboration skills—you can partner with PMs, estimators, and field leads to deliver quality, on time

Rothrock Civil Construction is seeking a skilled Secondary Operator to support mainline operations and assist with equipment setup, material handling, and site tasks on utility projects. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, and ready to work closely with the crew to keep projects running smoothly and efficiently.
