Position Summary:

The Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for managing state and federal tax deposits, filings, and reporting for all U.S. client employees (manual, non-manual, and expatriates), as well as Canadian national employees and expatriates in Canada.

This role requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills to resolve complex tax issues. The analyst will collaborate closely with payroll tax team members, state tax offices, payroll, corporate tax, and HR teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Upload and process daily payroll tax files from various payroll systems into tax software.
• Collect payroll tax downloads, balance data, and process timely deposits from multiple sources.
• Perform detailed analysis and quarterly/year-end reconciliations of payroll tax balances and payments.
• Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns, including unemployment tax returns and prior quarter/year-end adjustments.
• Prepare and submit amended returns when necessary.
• Handle annual tax filings for both the U.S. and Canada (e.g., W-2s, Form 940, T4 slips, RL-1 slips).
• Maintain and update state unemployment rate information and communicate changes to tax vendors and payroll teams.
• Analyze state and federal tax withholding rules, deposit schedules, and reporting requirements.
• Maintain accurate company data and rates in Tax Gathering System (TGS) and MasterTax.
• Prepare and submit daily journal entries for tax payments using Oracle Financials.
• Respond to general ledger inquiries for payroll tax accounts.
• Work with HR to determine when new unemployment tax accounts are needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR 3+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong ability to research, analyze, reconcile, and resolve complex tax scenarios.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with SAP HCM and expatriate payroll.
• Familiarity with journal entries in Oracle Financials.
• Knowledge of the client’s general ledger and chart of accounts.
