Mig Welder
This role focuses on MIG welding thicker gauge structural steel using a variety of weld shop tools and equipment. You will perform welding and welding preparation on heavy steel components, read and interpret blueprints, and support fabrication activities in a traditional weld shop environment while occasionally assisting in shipping and warehouse operations.
Responsibilities- Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on thicker gauge steel, typically from 5/8 inch to 1 inch or more, using .045 wire.
- Complete welding preparation work, including cleaning, fitting, and setting up materials prior to welding.
- Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to understand weld locations, sizes, and specifications.
- Use measuring tools accurately down to 1/32 of an inch to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications.
- Operate common weld shop tools, including grinders, saws, shears, brake presses, plasma cutters, and oxy-acetylene torches.
- Perform structural welding on thick steel components, ensuring proper penetration and weld quality.
- Use carbon arc gouging and other cutting or removal processes as needed for fabrication or rework.
- Assist with fabrication tasks such as cutting, shaping, and preparing steel components according to prints.
- Learn and operate a CNC laser turret to cut steel after receiving appropriate training.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in the weld shop.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and quality standards.
- Support cross-functional needs by helping in shipping and warehouse operations as required.
- At least 3+ months of MIG welding experience.
- Hands-on experience with the MIG (GMAW) welding process using .045 wire.
- Ability to weld thicker gauge and structural steel (around 1 inch or thicker) with proper penetration.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools down to 1/32 of an inch.
- Comfortable using common shop tools such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, and saws.
- Ability to perform welding prep work, including grinding and material preparation.
- Willingness to cross-train and work in shipping and warehouse areas when needed.
- Completion of welding school or technical training in welding or metal fabrication is preferred.
- Experience with structural welding and fabrication in a production or job shop environment.
- Familiarity with flux core welding processes.
- Experience operating brake presses, shears, and other metal forming equipment.
- Exposure to using a CNC laser turret or similar CNC cutting equipment, or willingness to learn.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Reliable work ethic and ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

Work EnvironmentYou will work in a traditional weld shop environment that uses a range of fabrication and cutting equipment, including MIG welding machines, plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, saws, shears, brake presses, and a CNC laser turret. The role follows a day shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The setting is industrial and hands-on, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures throughout the shift.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
