Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full‑Time Position.

Capital Power is seeking a senior-level health and safety professional to join our Corporate Health and Safety team and help strengthen how work is done safely across our operations in the United States.

Reporting to the Director, Health and Safety, this role supports Capital Power’s North American fleet by contributing to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of practical, risk-based corporate health and safety programs tailored to diverse operating environments. You will work closely with corporate peers, site teams, and leadership to support consistency across the fleet, while recognizing that safe work is shaped by local context and operational reality.

This is an opportunity for an experienced professional who brings strong technical depth, operational credibility, and a learning mindset. Capital Power is on a journey toward the application of Human and Organizational Performance principles, and this role contributes directly to how we design systems, learn from events, and continuously improve.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Playing a key role in the design, implementation, and continual improvement of corporate health and safety programs, standards, and tools applicable across US jurisdictions.

  • Monitoring, interpreting, and translating US health and safety legislation, including OSHA and state-level requirements, into clear, practical corporate expectations.

  • Providing subject matter expertise to sites, projects, and leadership on health and safety systems, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

  • Supporting sites in the implementation of corporate programs while allowing for site-specific risk profiles, operating models, and business realities.

  • Applying Human and Organizational Performance principles to program design, learning processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Supporting health and safety event classification, investigation frameworks, and analysis of trends to identify systemic improvement opportunities.

  • Developing guidance materials, training resources, and communication tools that support the consistent and effective application of programs.

  • Collaborating with operations, projects, and contractors to ensure programs are usable, scalable, and aligned with how work is actually performed.

What you will bring to the role

Education and certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • A US-recognized professional health and safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or the ability to obtain this certification within a defined period.

  • Additional certifications such as CIH or CHST are considered an asset.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive health and safety experience, preferably within industrial or power generation environments.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing corporate health and safety programs or management systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of US health and safety legislation, including OSHA regulations and state-level requirements.

  • Experience working across multiple sites or jurisdictions.

  • Operational and field-based experience, with a strong understanding of how health and safety programs are applied in real-world operating environments.

  • Familiarity with Human and Organizational Performance concepts and their application in safety management.

  • Experience supporting contractor health and safety programs is an asset.

Skills and attributes

  • Strong ability to translate regulatory and technical requirements into clear, outcome-focused expectations.

  • Program and systems-thinking capability grounded in risk-based decision making.

  • Ability to analyze data, trends, and events to inform decisions and drive meaningful improvement.

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with site teams, operations, and leadership.

  • A practical mindset focused on enabling safe, effective work rather than creating administrative burden.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid position based in Midland, Michigan, Phoenix, Arizona, or Washington, DC, with the option for fully remote work based in the United States.

  • Periodic travel within the United States and North America, including occasional short-notice travel.
