High-Voltage Distribution & Transformer Reliability Manager
High-Voltage Distribution & Transformer Reliability Manager
It’s what’s inside that counts. At CMC, the power that fuels our mills, fabrication plants, and recycling operations is mission-critical — and you’ll be the person ensuring it runs flawlessly.
Step into a day in this role
Morning begins in the transformer yard, reviewing overnight data from oil analysis and DGA, scanning for anomalies with IR/predictive tools, and prioritizing work with your Medium Voltage Technicians. Midday is for coordinating with Engineering and Operations on upcoming upgrades and capital projects. Afternoon might find you knee-deep in a relay coordination issue, aligning protection settings, or finalizing scopes with contractors for a planned transformer refurbishment — all while keeping safety front and center with NFPA 70E, OSHA, and CMC standards.
What you’ll drive
- End-to-end stewardship of site power distribution from the transformer yard through plant-level MV systems, ensuring safe, reliable operation
- Leadership, development, and technical mentorship for a team of Medium Voltage Technicians
- Ownership of the transformer reliability program: inspections, oil testing, predictive diagnostics (IR, DGA, partial discharge), and repair/overhaul planning
- Readiness of critical electrical spares — inventory strategy, condition, and availability
- Advanced troubleshooting across HV/MV equipment, including transformer protection, relay logic, and breaker coordination
- Preventive and predictive maintenance programs tailored to high- and medium-voltage assets
- Cross-functional collaboration on equipment upgrades and capital projects with a reliability and maintainability lens
- Strict adherence to NFPA 70E, OSHA, and CMC safety practices for all electrical work
- Budget management and vendor/contractor oversight for transformer upgrades, replacements, and network expansions
- Input to long-range capital planning for site power infrastructure
- Other duties as assigned
What you bring
- 5+ years managing and maintaining MV/HV power systems in industrial or utility environments
- Depth in transformer maintenance and protection, plus power distribution reliability strategies
- Hands-on experience with predictive technologies such as oil analysis, IR, DGA, and partial discharge
- Fluency in safe work practices for MV/HV equipment and Arc Flash standards
- CMMS proficiency (SAP experience is a plus)
- Proven team-building and supervisory capability with technical and non-technical personnel
Education
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related field) required
Benefits from day one
- Low-cost Medical, Vision, and Dental coverage starting Day 1
- Paid Time Off and Vacation beginning Day 1
- 401(k) with 4.5% company match
- $500 annual company-paid Lifestyle Benefit
- Competitive pay and performance bonuses
- Company-paid Life and Disability insurance
- Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- Training and advancement opportunities
