Kennel Technician

Part-Time | $14 per hour (based on experience)About Us:
Laramie Peak Humane Society (LPHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal shelter serving Converse County, Wyoming. We care primarily for cats and dogs, but also assist with any animals impounded through our county contract. Our mission is to provide compassionate care, promote responsible pet ownership, and connect animals with loving homes.Position Summary:
The Kennel Technician is a vital part of our shelter team, responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and positive environment for animals and the public. This position involves daily care and cleaning, assisting with animal handling, and supporting the overall operations of the shelter.Key Responsibilities:
Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of kennels, cages, and public areas following strict disease control protocols.
Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes and report concerns to the Executive Director.
Feed, water, and provide enrichment for animals as directed.
Maintain adequate stock of cleaning and kennel supplies.
Wash, dry, fold, and distribute laundry throughout the shelter.
Assist the public and interact with visitors in a friendly, professional manner.
Use shelter software and basic computer programs to assist with animal records.
Occasionally post updates or adoptable animals on social media.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
Ability to learn basic animal behavior, handling, and care procedures.
Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor with the public and coworkers.
Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn shelter management software.
Dependable, punctual, and able to follow instructions accurately.
Must be comfortable working around all types of animals.
Preferred:
Two or more years of experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or animal control facility.
Knowledge of vaccination and microchip procedures.
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, or walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance.
Comfortable working in varying conditions (noise, odors, cleaning agents).
Ability to see and hear well enough to monitor animal safety and behavior.
Emotional & Mental Requirements:
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes emotionally challenging environment.
Ability to cope with the realities of animal care, including euthanasia or illness.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to remain calm and professional under stress.
Schedule & Compensation:
This position requires flexibility, including some weekends and holidays based on shelter needs.
Typically scheduled up to 5 days per week, depending on staffing and animal intake.
