The Legal & Corporate Affairs team is responsible for safeguarding the company’s reputation, ensuring we are operating with integrity and in line with our strategic initiatives. The Legal team provides high-quality legal services, ensures legal compliance and mitigates risks. The Corporate Communications team works to execute strategic and effective communication efforts that drive brand awareness, preference and reputation with internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the Corporate Social Responsibility & Belonging teams support the company’s environmental and social commitments with a strong focus on pets, people and the planet. The collective team supports the overall success and positive reputation of the company.

About the Location

This role is based at PetSmart’s Phoenix Home Office, where associates currently enjoy the benefits of in-person collaboration while having the flexibility to work remotely one day per week (a “flex workday” with leader approval), and an expected four days in the office. About the Job

Job Summary:

The Corporate Engagement Specialist helps drive a connected, high-performing workplace that embodies our values across all PetSmart stores, distribution centers and offices. This role supports driving a values-based culture by managing the success of our 7 Associate Resource Groups (ARGs) facilitating guidance, expertise and leadership engagement to deliver on our goals, and supports the execution of large-scale experiential virtual and in-person corporate events. In addition, this role supports increased associate engagement and building the PetSmart community through programs driving associate giving & volunteerism, civic engagement and building company-wide moments that celebrate connection and shared purpose.

As an internal communications consultant, this role partners with teams across the business to weave our values and commitment to community-building into everyday experiences, helping strengthen engagement, retention, and pride among our associates—and delivering a better experience for every pet and pet parent we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Increasing Corporate Engagement (40%)

  • Contribute to the growth of our seven Associate Resource Groups, helping them plan meaningful events, use budgets effectively, and expand reach across stores, DCs, and corporate.
  • Support the Manager, Corporate Engagement & Associate Experience in bringing engaging content and PetSmart’s vision, mission, values and business strategies to life in high-profile company events and meetings including: Field Leadership Meeting, Circle of Excellence, Vendor Summits, Town Halls, Monthly Business Update Meetings, Belonging Week, Be the Difference, ARG events, and all campus events.
  • Conduct research to identify site locations, availability, capacity, initial pricing, vendor partners, and potential obstacles to develop event recommendations.
  • Support in the planning and sourcing for all event related materials (giveaways, décor, signage, awards, etc.) to ensure key stakeholders’ vision is achieved.
  • Support with all pre-event communication needs (written communication, calendar invites, physical and digital signage, etc.)
  • Execute the event agenda to accurately plan on-site setup, rehearsals, meals, breaks, rooming blocks, and meeting space transitions, as well as all onsite vendors and logistics.
  • Create post-event communications, including event recaps, video replays, photos, etc. to highlight on various internal communication channels and drive further awareness across the organization.
  • Facilitate leadership development and growth opportunities for ARG members and leaders.
  • Promote storytelling and recognition efforts that highlight associate contributions.

Driving a Values-Driven Culture (35%)

  • Collaborate with departments like HR, Store Operations, Communications, and Facilities to integrate culture-building into programs, events and activities.
  • Integrate our values across the company so that all associates are aware of them and can embody them.
  • Support internal campaigns including our annual giving and values-driven celebration moments.

Volunteerism and Civic Engagement (25%)

  • Execute associate volunteer programs, community activations, and parade/event participation.
  • Manage a small civic engagement budget, ensuring funds support high-impact associate-driven initiatives.
  • Respond to the communities we serve in times of crisis response moments (natural disasters, relief efforts)
  • Track and share results of volunteerism and engagement programs across the company.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college/university in a relevant field preferred, three years of work experience in relevant field.
  • 3+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate community engagement, employee experience, or CSR-related programs
  • Experience working with employee resource groups or associate-led communities, ideally in a retail or distributed workforce
  • Excellent facilitation, relationship-building, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Passion for translating associate experience into improved customer connection
  • Knowledge of volunteer platforms, internal communications, or culture change frameworks a plus
