Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant with experience in civil litigation to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to attorneys, ensuring the smooth operation of legal cases and processes. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of litigation experience and a solid understanding of the litigation process.
Key Responsibilities
• Case Management: Assist in managing civil litigation cases, including maintaining case files, tracking deadlines, and monitoring case progress.
• Document Preparation: Draft, format, and proofread legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery responses, and correspondence.
• Filing and Compliance: File legal documents with courts, both electronically and in person, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
• Discovery Support: Organize and manage discovery materials, coordinate document production, and assist in preparing discovery responses.
• Scheduling: Coordinate meetings, depositions, court appearances, and client consultations; manage attorneys' calendars.
• Client Communication: Serve as a liaison between attorneys and clients, providing updates, collecting information, and addressing inquiries.
• Research Assistance: Conduct basic legal research, locate case law, and summarize findings as needed.
• Trial Preparation: Organize exhibits, prepare trial binders, coordinate witnesses, and assist attorneys during trial as required.
• Administrative Tasks: Handle general administrative duties such as answering phones, managing mail, processing invoices, and maintaining office supplies.
Qualifications
• Education: Associate’s degree or certification in legal studies or paralegal studies preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a legal assistant with a strong focus on civil litigation. Solid understanding of litigation procedures is required.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in legal software (e.g., Clio, ProLaw), Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic court filing systems (e.g., PACER, state court e-filing systems).
• Knowledge: Familiarity with civil litigation procedures, court systems, and relevant legal terminology.
• Skills:
o Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
o Strong written and verbal communication skills.
o Attention to detail and accuracy.
o Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
Work Environment
• Schedule: Full-time position with potential for occasional overtime.
• Location: Office-based located in Scottsdale, AZ, with occasional travel to courts or other locations as necessary.
