Position Summary

The Senior Estimator at Waibel Masonry is responsible for leading the full estimating and sales process from bid invitation through award. This role requires mastery of Tradesman estimating software, strong plan reading ability, and a deep understanding of commercial masonry systems and materials. The Senior Estimator works directly with the President to ensure bids are accurate, competitive, and submitted on time, and is expected to actively drive business development by building relationships with GCs, owners, and trade partners. This is an estimating and sales-focused role — project execution, job costing, and post-award project management are handled by the Project Management team.

Core Responsibilities

1. Tradesman Software — Primary Estimating Tool

● Master Tradesman as the primary estimating platform for all projects

● Perform all quantity takeoffs, pricing, and bid assembly within Tradesman

● Manage bid revisions, alternate bids, and value engineering within the platform

● Maintain accurate and organized bid files within Tradesman at all times

● Provide technical support to team members on Tradesman usage as needed

2. Estimating & Quantity Takeoffs

● Perform detailed and accurate quantity takeoffs for all assigned projects

● Provide complete project cost estimates including labor, materials, and equipment

● Review plans, specifications, and scope with Bill Waibel before submitting any bid

● Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as required

● Respond to all bid invitations from GCs, owners, and pipeline leads in a timely manner

● Receive and manage bid opportunities from multiple sources: Bill, pipeline meetings, GC invitations, and self-generated leads

3. Plan Reading & Scope Review

● Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications with accuracy

● Identify scope inclusions, exclusions, and risk items before submitting a bid

● Coordinate with Bill to clarify scope questions prior to bid submission

● Flag any plan inconsistencies, missing information, or items requiring RFI

4. Excel Data Management & Reporting

● Maintain advanced Excel skills for bid tracking, cost analysis, and reporting

● Build and maintain bid logs, budget trackers, and cost comparison spreadsheets

● Prepare and present weekly bid status reports to Bill Waibel

● Track win rate and bid volume on an ongoing basis

5. Business Development & Client Relations

● Represent Waibel Masonry professionally in all client, GC, and trade partner interactions

● Build and maintain strong relationships with GCs, owners, and preconstruction contacts

● Identify and pursue new bid opportunities through networking, pipeline meetings, and outreach

● Attend weekly pipeline sales meetings and contribute to business development strategy

● Work toward measurable bid volume and win rate goals set by ownership

● Hand off awarded projects to the Project Management team with a complete and accurate scope package

Qualifications

● Experience in the commercial masonry industry or a related field strongly preferred

● Proficiency in Tradesman estimating software strongly preferred

● Advanced Excel skills for data management, cost tracking, and reporting

● Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications

● Experience with quantity takeoffs and competitive bid preparation

● Strong communication skills — written and verbal, with a sales-oriented mindset

● Knowledge of AutoCAD or Bluebeam is a plus

● Commercial masonry knowledge preferred; willingness to learn masonry systems required

● Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously

Position Expectations

This is a full-time salaried role focused exclusively on estimating and sales, demanding accuracy, accountability, and a high level of ownership. The Senior Estimator is expected to operate independently, manage their bid workload proactively, and meet with Bill Waibel weekly to review bids, pipeline, and performance.

● Proactively leads a weekly check-in with the President to review active bids, win rate, and priorities

● All bids must be reviewed with Bill before submission — no bid goes out without scope alignment

● Respond to bid invitations and GC communications in a timely and professional manner

● Always maintain an organized and up-to-date bid log

● Employment is at-will — either party may terminate at any time, with or without cause or notice, consistent with Arizona law
