Overview

Our client is a leading provider of ERP software solutions for the Building Materials industry , delivering scalable enterprise applications that modernize operations across distribution, inventory management, and financial workflows.

As a Progress OpenEdge Engineer , you will contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of enterprise-grade ERP applications within a cross-functional Agile software development environment . This role focuses on OpenEdge ABL development, relational database management, systems integration, and software architecture modernization , helping customers streamline business processes and improve operational efficiency .

Key Responsibilities

Application Development & Architecture

• Design, develop, and enhance software features using Progress OpenEdge ABL , applying pragmatic software engineering principles

• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) within an Agile Scrum framework

• Refactor and modernize legacy codebases to improve code maintainability, modularity, reusability, and testability

• Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and domain-driven design concepts to core business logic

• Extend and evolve large-scale ERP systems to support new product capabilities

Database & Data Management

• Maintain and optimize relational database schemas to support system scalability and performance

• Write and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, and data access layers

• Ensure data integrity, consistency, and performance across distributed ERP modules

Testing, Quality & Performance

• Develop test harnesses and improve automated testing capabilities to increase code coverage

• Review and provide feedback on test plans, regression testing strategies, and quality assurance processes

• Debug functional defects and conduct performance analysis and optimization

• Perform peer code reviews to uphold software quality standards and architectural consist ency

Systems Integration & Web Services

• Design and maintain integrations with third-party platforms using RESTful and SOAP web services

• Support API development and system interoperability within enterprise environments

• Troubleshoot integration issues and implement long-term, scalable solutions

 User Experience & Product Collaboration

• Apply user experience (UX) design principles to enhance application usability and workflow efficiency

• Collaborate with product owners, UX designers, and QA teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions

• Provide technical mentorship and knowledge sharing to promote team capability grow th

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or related technical discipline

• Professional experience with Progress OpenEdge ABL or equivalent enterprise development platforms

• Strong proficiency in SQL, relational database design, and enterprise data modeling

• Working knowledge of JavaScript and modern web application concepts

• Experience developing or maintaining ERP systems or distribution-focused business applications preferred

• Demonstrated ability to work within Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)

• Strong analytical thinking, debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills

• Experience with web services integration (REST, SOAP APIs) is a plus

• Self-directed with the ability to take ownership of features and drive solutions to completion

• Willingness to travel as needed
