About the Program

Discover what its like to be part of New York Lifes Group Benefit Solutions (GBS) team. The GBS Underwriting Externship is a one-day immersive experience designed to introduce students to the world of group insurance underwriting financial analysis and career opportunities within New York Life.

Through this experience youll gain firsthand insight into the vital role underwriters play in assessing risk supporting clients and driving business decisions that help protect organizations and their employees.

What Youll Do

As a GBS Underwriting Extern youll develop foundational skills and professional connections through:

• Job shadowing experienced underwriters to observe real-world decision-making and client interaction.

• Hands-on financial and risk analysis to understand the fundamentals of underwriting.

• One-on-one mentorship with professionals in the Group Benefit Solutions division.

• Networking opportunities with leaders and underwriters across the organization.

• Career exploration and role-fit assessment to help you evaluate your interests in the insurance and financial services industry.

This full-day externship provides a real-world look into A Day in the Life of a group insurance underwriter at New York Lifehelping students make informed confident career choices.

Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates are students who are:

• Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Finance Business Economics Risk Management or a related field

• Analytical detail-oriented and comfortable working with data and numbers

• Strong in communication and problem-solving skills

• Innovative business-minded and customer-focused

• Interested in leadership and professional growth within financial services

• Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher (preferred)

Salary range: 1-day unpaid student immersion program
