Salary: $19-$38 hourly DOE
Job Summary
Responsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including but not limited to trench excavators, backhoes, and loaders in a safe expeditious manner in accordance with OSHA safe practices.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment for underground utility projects.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
- Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.
- Understand proper backfill requirements.
- Perform safe and clean trench excavation and backfill.
- Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes in accordance with OSHA safe practices.
- Safely change buckets and attachments in a timely manner
- Able to calculate and set proper grades and elevations.
- Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
- Prepare and maintain equipment for safe daily operations (i.e. fuel, grease, etc.)
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Adhere to B&F Code of Conduct
Required Skills & Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years experience in wet or dry utility heavy equipment operator experience
- Extensive knowledge and ability to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit.
- Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.
- Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirements
- Ability to follow traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to heavy equipment operation.
- Good listening and comprehension skills, follows instructions, takes responsibility for own actions.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outside.
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to understand Arizona's blue stake laws and colors coding.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:
- Moving mechanical parts
- Precarious places
- Fumes or airborne particles
- Frequent and/or sustained loud noises.
- Outside weather conditions
- Extreme heat
