  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

The Pima County Attorneys Office is hiring for a Paralegal Supervisor in the Criminal addition to performing paraprofessional legal work assisting attorneys this position is responsible for supervising all paralegals and other support staff members within their division including monitoring schedules and payroll. This position may also provide training for other staff members when needed. Work ranges from guiding paralegals in routine assignments to autonomous decision-making in coordinating processing and monitoring complex and specialized legal casework.

Essential Functions:

Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Performs paralegal duties and responsibilities as found in the Paralegal and Paralegal Trainer classification descriptions;

  • Leads trial teams;

  • Supervises legal support staff Paralegals and Paralegal Trainers;

  • Plans assigns and reviews caseloads and workloads;

  • Provides unit/division orientation for new legal support staff employees and acts as a resource/mentor role;

  • Provides training to paralegals legal support staff and new hire attorneys on staff roles department protocol and internal processes;

  • Creates manages and oversees employees work schedules and payroll duties in the timekeeping system;

  • Manages and oversees both the Attorneys and Unit calendars in anticipation of trial/case needs;

  • Participates in personnel selection staff evaluations and other personnel issues and disciplinary actions as needed;

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited college in a field such as paralegal legal assistant law business criminal justice political science interdisciplinary studies regional development communications OR a certificate of completion in paralegal or legal assistant studies from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved program at an accredited college or university or a closely related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND three years of experience as a paralegal in a public/local government law office.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Two years with Pima County in a Paralegal Trainer position.

Selection Proce dure :
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. A dditional assessments/testing may be r equired as part of the selection process .

Supplemental Information :

Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. Some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by the court or law enforcement agencies due to the need for access to County Attorney and Court facilities records and communication systems.

Physical/Sensory Requirements : Frequently operates a computer and other office equipment. Frequently observes details at close range. Frequently speaks to clients witnesses and other case involved parties such as law enforcement agencies in-person and/or on the phone. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves about inside an office. Occasionally drives to conduct field work. Occasionally must lift and carry items. Regularly works in a professional office setting.

Working Conditions: Regular daily attendance is an essential function for this position. The Paralegal Supervisor regularly receives and responds to telephone calls and emails. The Paralegal Supervisor occasionally drives to visit clients at residence or at jail or juvenile detention center and to witnesses and other case involved parties at residences or business locations.
